Small jobs welcome

"My water heater blew and I have used Jamie to fix a few issues around the house. He explained to me over the phone how to turn the water heater off so the water would stop leaking. He came over right away to assess the problem, then went straight to Home Depot to buy a new water heater. Within a few hours, he had it installed and up and running. Jamie is definitely my handyman for life and I will be calling him for any problem big or small."

Small jobs welcome

"I would strongly recommend Keegan to anyone needing furniture assembly!!! I have a ton of furniture that needs help with and Keegan took on and finished assembling 6,7 pieces of big furniture in just a few hours. Cost is also very reasonable, he even helped take out recycles. Everything he assembled has been working perfectly no issues whatsoever. Please hire him without doubt you have my word!! Already recommended him to friends and family."

Customers say: True professional

"Our landscaping in Menlo Park needed a complete refresh. The team replaced thirsty plants with drought-tolerant options that still provide plenty of color and curb appeal. We're using much less water without sacrificing appearance."

Customers say: Quality work

"Israel was recommended to me by my sister-in-law and mother-in-law. He was quick when replying back to me on his availability and showed up early to the job. I had two toilets that had problems and the previous plumber did not complete the job and I was getting the run-around with my home warranty company who couldn't get a straight answer from the previous plumber that had contracted. I waited a whole month before giving up working with them. I'm very pleased with Israel's work and he was quick. He happened to see my screen door was slamming while installing the toilets and had that fixed as well."

Pool Table Assembly questions, answered by experts

Generally speaking, most municipalities require you to get a permit when you build a pool. Whether or not you need a permit to install a plunge pool will depend on your local laws. It’s always better to check with your HOA and town clerk before digging for a new pool. Otherwise, violations could result in hefty fines.

Yes, you will need building permits for an inground pool, and your pool installation company should pull them for you. The permit filing fee will usually sit between $400 and $1,800, and it should appear on your contract or invoice. You may want to confirm with your contractor that they will pull all necessary permits. You might also need a permit for a new fence, as many municipalities have special fencing requirements for properties with pools. A fence permit costs between $50 and $500. This expense may not be included in your pool installation estimate.

Baking soda can help to clear your cloudy pool water if the alkalinity or pH is too low. Adding baking soda to your pool will increase the alkalinity and help bring your pH levels to a more comfortable range. Be sure to test the water as you add baking soda.

If your pool’s pH level is too high, chlorine won’t be as effective. Since chlorine is responsible for sanitation and keeping bacteria out of your pool, a high pH level could create a higher risk for bacterial diseases. It can also make you more susceptible to rashes and infections (like swimmer’s ear). Need to lower your pool’s pH? You can do it yourself for between $5 and $40.

There are pros and cons of in-ground vs. above-ground pools, which you should consider when choosing the pool of your summertime dreams. Some factors to think about include:

  • Above-ground pools are semi-permanent and movable, whereas in-ground pools are permanent structures.

  • In-ground pools are more expensive to install than above-ground pools.

  • It takes one to three days to install above-ground pools and several weeks for an in-ground pool install.

  • You can install an above-ground pool in smaller yards, but you need plenty of space for an in-ground pool.
