Customers say: True professional

"Our landscaping in Menlo Park needed a complete refresh. The team replaced thirsty plants with drought-tolerant options that still provide plenty of color and curb appeal. We're using much less water without sacrificing appearance."

"Excellent work. I have used this company for years for all house repairs and remodeling. Manny the owner is a general contractor...licensed and insured. He has done major repairs like replacing the gas line from the street to our house. This required digging up and replacing concrete. Tunneling under a retaining wall and digging up around 40 feet of lawn. Also, Manny did a beautiful job in remodeling a bathroom. He has done air conditioning repair work that saved us $3,000. The work that he has done for me includes painting, plumbing, masonry, concrete replacement etc. He always leave the premises clean when he is done for the day and at the end of each job. His prices are exceptional...equal to his work."

"Best-ever tree service experience. A very fair price that beat all other quotes. Expert removal of two tall Australian eucalyptus trees - 1 at about 65 feet, located between house and cabin structure taken down with expertise, with all removal and superb clean-up. Hire them - you will not be disappointed."

"Joel is one of the most genuinely nice dudes Iâ ve ever had do work at my house. We had to get some major trimming done, of which I didnâ t have the gear or skills to do. After getting quotes from a couple of the other local arborists, a neighbor recommended Joel, and it was the best decision going with him. He was communicative throughout the process, hooked us up with a reasonable price, did what needed to be done, and went above and beyond. Heâ d trim more than he needed to because he could. He blew off my entire roof and got rid of the pine needles, insisted on it! Didnâ t have to do thatâ ¦ With all that the service included removing all the trimmings from my property. Done quick, done right. His work appeased or insure provider and we avoided any issues after his service. Thanks Joel! Youâ re the man"

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

When temperatures drop far enough, even rock salt can’t melt the ice. The briny solution freezes before it develops, and the salt doesn’t work, which happens around 10 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. Keep in mind that wind chill and other factors impact ice-melting progress. Some ice melters, like magnesium chloride, work at colder temperatures and work better for deep winter freezes.

The best way to save money on snow removal is to sign up for a seasonal contract that guarantees service throughout the entire winter. Most companies charge between $200 and $600 for this service, and they’ll often give you a break on the price if you extend annually. Of course, savings will depend on your area. If you live in a moderate climate where snowfall may or may not occur, you could pay more than you need during a light snow year. Still, it’s usually a safe bet to sign a seasonal contract.

There is no hard and fast rule about using a snowblower on a specific amount of inches, but most snow removal experts suggest using one on 2 or more inches of snow for best results. This will also depend on what type of surface you’re working on and whether the snow is dry or wet.

If a big freeze catches you by surprise and you don’t have any deicer to hand, you can reduce the chance of taking a tumble by laying gritty, anti-slip materials. Some natural, readily-available options that don’t melt ice but offer traction underfoot include sand, wood shavings, kitty litter, and fireplace ash.

If you do end up with frozen gutters, it's important to thaw them correctly. Thawing your gutters slowly is far safer than trying to break apart the ice. Once you get through the ice, bring in a gutter professional to check out the effectiveness of your heated system.
