This project grew in scope until it included external lighting, interior lighting and ceiling fans, a repaint of almost every wall and some miscellaneous remodeling (stair rails, furniture quake retrofits). It was completed without undue delay and minimal disruption to our habitation.

we have decided to remodel our house. We were very excited to move forward on our new projects based on money that we saved for this special moment. We called M&M Construction based on their review and reputation on Angie's List. After a short meeting with Mo, we had a feeling that M&M Construction Will meet our needs. As expected, all went smooth all the way to the end, exactly as they presented it at the first meeting. When the project was done- we couldn't be any happier! We are more than happy with M&M construction's workmanship, the quality of the work, the great prices and how fast things were going!!! We love our new home very much, Thank you so much M&M Constructio

It was great working with Edwin Perez and his foreman (also named Edwin). They did great work at a fair price. They had to prop-up the house to remove brick foundation and replace with concrete. They also did a few other projects related to concrete and plumbing and drainage. I'd work with them again

Bolt Down The Bay Area
5.0
Exceptionally well. The Bolt Down the Bay Area team is very professional, knowledgeable, responsive and the project went very smoothly. The did everything correctly so I got my EBB (earthquakebracebolt.com) check from the state of California for $3000 which covered over half the cost. They have done over 1000 of these have the process down to a science. If you have an older house a seismic upgrade is money well spent to protect your home and your family. Plus, good luck finding a contractor after an earthquake

Dor Ashkar responded immediately and was able to schedule the work to meet my needs. The work was done start to finish in six days with no interruptions. I did have to stay on top of the work to make sure everything on the engineer's list was completed. Their work was done neatly and the crew cleaned up at the end of each day so that I could pull my car into the garage which they used as a staging area

Albert Nahman came out to look and gave me estimate, half of what Berkeley Plumbing would have charged. And the guy who did the installation, Mario, was very professional. He was concerned about my ancient furnace and gave me the name of a furnace guy who used to work at Atlas Plumbing, Kerin Portillo. I ended up having Kerin come out, inspect the furnace, and based on the terrible cracks he found and I saw on this 22 year old unit, he installed another forced air furnace at a good price, so I was happy with the whole experience

The estimator, Gabriel Kalmon, arrived promptly on Monday afternoon to assess the gas meter and provide a fixed price for installing the valve. He explained the work to be done clearly. They have done this kind of work before, even giving a deep discount for an entire neighborhood. He gave us a good discount for the referrral from Angie's List. We requested that the work be done soon, so he organized the workman, Chris, to come first thing Tuesday morning (convenient for both of us, as Chris lives close by). "Two hours max," Gabriel assured us. Chris began the work begun promptly at 8 am and finished by 9 am, efficient and carefully

"Raz and his crew at Brother and Brother exceeded our expectations. They got the job done within the stated timeline which was key. The price was the best quoted and the quality of the finished product is excellent! It was easy to communicate via text or call, what we wanted and expected. If we had any questions on materials or any changes to be made, they were quick to respond at any time, day or night. The whole crew was polite and easy to work with. Being that the job was the kids' bathroom remodel, they kept the worksite clean everyday after they were done. They adjusted the mirror to accommodate the faucet and gave suggestions to the paint and glass tile niche when we were unsure. Again, their timeliness was spot on; they started the job right away and finished on time. They had permits and inspections planned to very well, and we were notified well in advance when to expect any visits. So happy with the overall quality of the work, ease of communication, and fair price of the whole remodel. Would do it all again in a heartbeat! Thank you, Raz, for the best experience possible. Hope to work with you again in the future!!!

"<strong>Pros</strong>
<br />
<em>General Quality of Work</em>
<br /> During construction it was obvious that VHB takes pride in the work they do. I noticed the plywood subfloor was tongue and groove, glued and screwed to the floor joists to minimize squeaks. I am not sure what the code requirements are, but I was really pleased with how this was done.The bathroom tile work was well done. The tile guys worked late on multiple days to get this job done in a timely manner. My wife and I were really pleased with the results.Very willing to resolve issues even after they received payment for a milestone.There are many examples where they added extras without us asking them to.
<br /> These examples include:
<br /> - Adding extra attic vents
<br /> - Making the roofer come back to open up cutouts in roof for vents (I didn?t notice or ask them to do this)
<br />
<em>Freebees</em>
<br /> These are items that for various reasons, they openly took responsibility for and provided at no additional cost:
<br /> - Interior insulation
<br /> - Extra Attic ventilation
<br /> - Extra Attic Access
<br /> - Crown Molding
<br /> - Extra Schluter trim for tile in bathroom
<br /> - Refinishing of hardwood floor
<br />
<strong>Cons</strong>
<br />
<em>Contract for Design</em>
<br /> The contract that we signed stated that the $2700 we paid for the design would be applied to the total cost of our addition. When we settled on a price for the addition we asked if the $2700 would be deducted as stated on the contract and they said ?no?, it was already deducted for the final price. We told them that we thought this was kind of misleading and they gave us a $1000 credit.They told us they could not relocate existing sprinkler systems or pavers that were to be impacted by the addition. They said we would have to get outside contractors to handle this on our own. All other home remodeling companies we interviewed said they would be happy to relocate pavers and sprinkler systems for us. We are not sure why VHB had such a ?unique? response.
<br />
<em>Windows</em>
<br /> We originally requested double hung windows for the project to match the windows with the rest of the house. When the windows came they were casement style. When I asked why this was done, they said it was needed to have enough window area to meet fire code. When they drew up the original plans they didn?t account for this and make the window opening wide enough for double hung. Because extra time and reengineering would be required to widen the window opening, they chose to increase the height. As a result our windows are almost as high as a door.
<br />
<em>Communication</em>
<br /> Between themselves - issues communicating between Designer and PM. Shower niches not located where the designer told us they could be. This was because we were going to locate the niches on a structural shear wall.
<br /> Directly with them - Kept confusing our project with another, similar project.
<br />
<em>Use of Personal Items</em>
<br /> VHB touts their Angies List awards and exceptional service as compared to other contractors. Because of this, I was a little surprised to see the framers and subcontractors using our personal items. Some of the personal items they used include:
<br /> - Hose coil used and damaged. Never replaced.
<br /> - Hose reel used in place of the hose coil that was damaged above.
<br /> - I had a 5 gallon bucket in the garage used to store automotive grease guns. The grease guns were placed on the garage floor so they could use our bucket. As a result I walked into garage one day to find a large grease stain on the floor where the guns were laid (They offered to clean the grease stain).
<br /> - Another 5 gallon bucket was taken from the garage to perform tile work. It was never returned.
<br /> - A push broom was taken from garage and used on job site.
<br /> - Patio Swing - We have a patio swing that I noticed was getting dusty from all the construction so we covered it in plastic. A few days later we noticed the plastic was pulled off. I guess the framers liked using the porch swing for their lunch break? In any case it got pretty dusty and just another item we had to clean.
<br /> All of the items in question were used to perform the job. Almost every item was worth $20 or less. Nothing was deliberately stolen or maliciously damaged. With that said, it would have been nice to get a phone call, email, or text basically stating something like ?hey, just wanted to let you know that we needed to use this or that out of the garage?.
<br />
<em>Determination of Grade</em>
<br /> Started with an A+ and adjusted their grade based on the following:
<br /> - Windows, subtract 1, A
<br /> - Use of personal items, subtract 1, A
<br /> - Design contract issues, subtract 1, B+
<br /> - Communication, subtract 1, B
<br /> - Freebees, add 1, B+
<br /> Overall Grade B+, truncated to B for Angies list

"Just moved into our new home. We were looking for a house for a few months, all the nice houses we saw were completely out of our budget. At some point we started to look at a few fixers. Our house required a lot of work, literally everything. Kitchen, flooring, insulation, rewire, and more. Dor from A2Z was very efficient, detail oriented, and most important for us he know how to move everything very quickly which allowed us to move in in a reasonable time. Dor and his team Got the permits very quickly, they helped us to get all the materials as cabinets, tiles, and plumbing fixtures. Once the construction started the process was pretty smooth, we met them on site every week or a week and a half, they were dealing with most of the work and they made sure to ask us for our opinion for every design dilemma. We love the result! Thank you!
