We had a rocky start with the city.  They wanted us to hire a structural engineer, which would have cost thousands!  But Paul from Exterior Remodeling Specialists was able to create a plan that was finally ok'd by the city after a number of meetings so we did not have go through all the headache and expense of hiring the engineer!  Paul was able to get the permit, build it and get it all approved.  Awesome.  Paul was super easy to work with from start to finish.  We have a number of other things around the house that need attention and will be calling them back to do the work.  In addition, we had some dry rot behind our rain gutters that proved a difficult repair. They threw the work in for no additional cost.
The new deck with the glass panels has improved the view by leaps and bounds.  It really looks clean and sharp and everyone that has seen it is impressed with how great it looks.  I can't wait to get new furniture and enjoy the bbq!

Straight-forward, ethical, professional, attentive and efficient!  Paul Edwards and his team at Exterior Remodeling Specialists transformed my home, and restored my faith in contractors.  It's been a long, difficult journey to find the right people to work on my house. Paul showed up, listened to me, offered his insight, an estimate and a construction schedule on the spot. It was obvious he knew exactly what needed to be done. No padding of the budget, no contingency plan for any delays. He told me what he could do, would do ... and he did it -- on time and on budget! The house looks GREAT. Throughout the process, he was on site and available to answer my questions. He would invite me out to see the work and explain the process phase by phase. I appreciated that he kept me in the loop, while also making sure I was happy with the progress. The crew cleaned-up every night, and showed up on time each morning. I'm a bit of a "tough customer" and can say that Exterior Remodeling Specialists exceeded my expectations. If you want topflight craftsmanship and a NO NONSENSE approach - you must call this company!

The previous work completed on replacing stucco with Hardy siding, new windows and a small side deck let us know he is responsive, courteous and an excellent craftsman.

It went very well.  Paul, the owner, has a great deal of pride in his work. He also provided ideas that made the deck even better than I had hoped.  We used Horizon decking and re-used the existing vinyl railing system. The concrete support foundations were difficult since they had to dig thru rock. They also built a redwood access stairway and railings.

When he said he would be here, he was!  This alone is a big deal.

Paul is easy to deal with and has a good sense of humor. His workers were efficient, respectful and careful.

The deck is gorgeous! I could not ask for more.

In a sea of mediocre contractors and careless craftsmanship, Paul and his crew stand apart. In all of our years dealing with different contractors, we have never come across someone who truly and deeply cares about getting the job done right as much as they do. They also have the skills and experience to handle just about any exterior remodeling project. Their attention to detail and drive for a high-quality finished product is second to none.
Our two story home was loaded with 30+ year old aluminum windows, many of which no longer worked properly. We received many quotes from companies wanting to replace them with "retrofit" vinyl windows. After much research, we decided to go with new construction style windows instead, as they have a much better inside and outside appearance. This option costs a little more, but the end product is far more visually appealing and gives you a brand-new water tight seal around every window (retrofit windows simply rely on your existing trim, flashing, etc.). Paul walked through all of the measurements and options for the windows we chose, often giving us good design insight and recommendations.
As they began to remove the old windows, it became clear that many areas of our siding, trim, and plywood underneath were on their last legs due to years of water penetration. Paul walked us through several options and we ultimately settled on replacing all of the siding and trim instead of simply patching the areas with the worst damage. The James Hardie products they used are of high quality and are not susceptible to rot or termites, yielding an exterior that not only looks stunning but will last for a lifetime.
Paul and his crew were simply wonderful throughout the duration of the project. They were always on time, worked with care and precision, and never cut corners. It was clear from the start that they cared about the quality of their workmanship and did not quit until we were completely satisfied with all aspects of the project. Paul has a keen eye for good design and even threw in a brand-new Marvin french door simply because he knew it would make a big difference in the appearance and functionality of our back room. The end result exceeded our expectations, both in terms of quality and value. We would not hesitate use Paul and his amazing crew again in the future.

Paul is a friendly  and trustworthy person. I would definitely hire him again if we need more work done on our house. Everything went smoothly. It was easy to communicate with him - by phone or email. He called my partner and I both whenever he wanted to communicate scheduling and updates on the work being done. He was able to recommend other contractors as well when we needed sheetrock installed and coordinated his schedule around ours. He was very flexible and willing to work with us when we found mold that needed to be taken care of. I would definitely recommend him to my friends and family if anyone needs new windows.

Paul Edwards and the ERS team just finished a large project at my 2 story home with beautiful results.  My initial choice between two contractors, both well rated on Angie?s List and competitively priced, was ultimately based on timing and availability.    Now that the project is done, I am pleased to add my recommendation to Angie?s List.
Simply put, ERS was outstanding.
Some high points:
Communication:  Paul pro-actively communicated just the right amount; whether the news was good or not-so good, he made sure I knew what was going on and what to expect.  He was very approachable and easy to get ahold of.  He checked in frequently to make sure that I was satisfied and quickly addressed anything that needed attention.  I never felt like I was getting a ?story?, I felt like I was dealing with a businessman.  This is a big plus in my experience.  In addition, each of his crew was very attentive and communicative as well.  If I asked a question, they were good at giving answers or finding the answer out.
Attention to detail:  Paul and his team put a lot of emphasis on the details ? both what would perform well and what would look good.  This is another area where Paul excels and his team does as well.  Back to communication, Paul would point out the design issue, make a recommendation but let me make the decision.  His explanations made it easy to grasp the situation and come to a satisfying choice.
Quality outcome:  The best feedback for quality will be how everything holds up in 20 or more years.  Since the job is just done, my comments are from watching the team work:  they seemed to take pride in their workmanship and held to a standard that was consistent with the quality of the materials.
Respect:   Aside from materials and design, there are a lot of little things that add up to a satisfying experience ?or not.  I felt that my time, resources and property were respected from the first day to the last.
While my initial choice of going with ERS was around availability, if I needed to go through another exterior remodeling project, I would absolutely seek out Paul Edwards and the ERS team.   My house was in the hands of experts ? and it shows.

Paul was an incredible contractor to work with.  Complete professional, understanding, punctual and very thorough.  He was easy to talk to and very accommodating, it was a pleasure to work with him.  He also has a great sense of humor and works until he sees the job is excellent and we are satisfied.  He and his crew were clean, polite and respectful.  Debris removed in a timely manner.  We highly recommend him and would not hesitate to use him again.  We feel like we have a brand new beautiful home!

Paul and his crew were phenomenal. I have a side of the house that's only visible from a neighbour's yard - i've never properly "seen it" until i noticed a water leak in the ceiling and went to investigate.Turned out that the siding on that side has completely deteriorated, with totally rotten planks, holes, etc.  The house was built in 1961 without insulation or proper water membrane.   This is a 2 story house with a garage.Paul's crew took down the old siding, replaced a fair amount of damaged studs top-to-bottom, cleaned out any rot and other water damage. They then installed insulation, put Tyvek and then HardiePlank and painted it (i'm sure there was a lot more to it).The attention to detail was impeccable - i had an unrelated leak in an unrelated part of the house, so they pulled out balcony planks and fixed the improper flashing that let water in were that leak was. They cleaned up and fixed the poorly installed siding on other side of the house that managed to rot and go to mush that other contractors installed cheaply and incorrectly just 3 years ago, replacing everything with "bulletproof" materials that wouldn't get damaged in any foreseable future; and fixing up any other issues that were "in the area" such as fixing up the 2nd-story balcony with partially-broken spindles.
Paul was very transparent the entire time - I knew exactly what they were doing and why, he ran all the options past me, always asked for feedback, which was invariably "please do what you think is best, i trust you unconditionally".At no point did Paul try to jack up the price or "invent" additional charges - everything was very clear and transparent. When the full extent of water damage was discovered we discussed the options and amount of work needed to fix it; and all of the additional fees were clear and fair. Moreover, they didn't need to install sheetrock which they initially assumed and priced in, and Paul discounted the overall project price by that amount.
I have never found a more conscientious and straightforward and trustworthy contractor than Paul and his guys. They were on time, they worked hard, they clearly take pride in their work and do it very very well.
I had a very delicate situation since the only way to get to that side of the house is from neighbour's yard - scaffolding had to be on the neighbour's property with a young vulnerable tree right to the side of scaffolding. They took great care to be polite and careful with my neighbour's property, regularly cleaned up after themselves and were very careful not to disturb the neighbour's life.
My wife has done a lot of work with various contractors in the past (she used to run a color consulting business) and was very impressed with their professionalism. I was extremely happy (thanks AgiesList!) to find Paul, and I can't recommend him enough.
It's a no-brainer - you hire Paul, and all your big problems and al the unforeseen little details will be solved without you having to worry about it.

Paul and his crew did an excellent job. We live in a 3.5 story hillside home, with a lot of exterior surface area. As we got in to the job, we discovered extensive water damage that had been caused by our old leaking siding, and quite few areas that required new underlying plywood and sheetrock. Paul and his crew handled all of the work, and did a fine job on everything. The scope of the work went beyond what we originally expected, but that was only due to the water damage and some additional items we chose to add in to the scope. We would definitely hire Exterior Remodeling Specialists again!

The whole experience was less than perfect from my perspective because of events outside of Paul's control. A family illness meant that the job was started late. The truck bringing the new French doors to our home was involved in an accident and the doors had to be returned to the supplier which meant further delay. Paul managed his professional commitments so that he was available to do our job as soon as circumstances allowed, for which I am grateful.

I contacted Paul the week of August 22nd and today (September 1) my siding job is done!   I have a two level home in San Francisco that looks great from the front, but looked like a haunted house in the back.  The siding was rotted, windows in the basement were falling out of the sashes, water was leaking in through the old windows...it was really bad.  I had a few contractors out for quotes, but their prices seemed to me to be ridiculously high. I only needed one side of the house re-done not all 4!  In any case, I contact ERS through Angie's List and crossed my fingers.  I had read his reviews and I was hoping and praying that I would have a similar experience.  Paul came out, very nice guy and gave me a quote.  The quote seemed fair to me, he said he could do the work in 3 days the following week and I managed to negotiate in two new windows.  Again I crossed my fingers that he knew what he was doing and that he would do what he said.  I was not disappointed.  Paul and hew crew came out, did the job, discovered additional rot after removing the old siding and worked out a great price for me.  The job is done-3 days, the siding looks phenomenal, the windows are great and they cleaned up after themselves when they were done!  I've worked with many contractors in my time and I've had a LOT of very bad experiences.  I can honestly say that Paul is very good at what he does, he is honest, he is easy to communicate with and he does what he says he is going to do-and then some.  I will be doing work with him again in the future.  I have already discussed a few smaller jobs with him for the months to come.  A+ from me. Thanks Paul & crew.

Paul is the Mike Holmes of the San Francisco Bay Area. Paul and his crew have been fabulous. They have come in and pretty much rebuilt our home. During the stucco removal mold was found on the drywall and insulation. This was removed and replaced with new material. There were several places where termites had eaten large portion of beams and Paul was able to remove and replace all damaged areas. His attention to detail is superb and he believes in getting a job done correctly. The Hardy siding that is now on our home makes the house a home. We can't wait to have Paul and his crew come back to replace our deck and sheds. I will be adding photos as soon as the exterior painting is completed this week.

ERS did fantastic quality work for our project. Paul prides himself on getting all the details right, and that is exactly what we wanted. He had to work with other contractors on this job and he was very concerned that all the work was done correctly by all parties. He and his team were fast workers and extremely punctual. They went above and beyond for us. We had several variances to our bid, and he was always fair and detailed about explaining his proposals. I had submitted this bid out for other quotes and ERS had the most competitive price. Not only was ERS competitive, but you could tell from the detail he provided in his bd that he had thought through details. Without hesitation, we would refer him to anyone that needed siding work done on their properties. He and his crew was very trustworthy. I had originally offered him more of the project, but he declined because his license did not cover concrete work. My particular job was complicated one because required coordination with other contractors. My only feedback to Paul that when there was an issue, he needed to be able to inform the other contractors rather than constantly go through me because sometimes I was not home. I would have preferred that he call them first and if the response was inadequate that he come to me since I was not a professional GC. However if I needed to communicate with him, he was very responsive and overall he got along well with the other teams. He did not give me daily progress reports, but kept me generally appraised. Since the progress on his scope of work went so quickly, this was not a major issue for me. In fact, his work was beautiful and we are very pleased with how hard he worked to deliver that quality to us. If you are going to spend money on your exterior, you want a specialized company like this working for you. The experience and percision is far better than what most general contractors can bring. My only regret is that because of rain I have not been able to get the house painted. The photos uploaded are only with primer. I will update this after our paint is dry.

so glad I signed up on Angie's list.I had been procrastinating about this dry rot problem and really didn't know where to find the right company. I found a great company to fix it on Angie's list! I got prompt response from my first call, a prompt evaluation of the problem and an estimate within a week! And the job was started/finished within 3 days (2 weeks after I first talked with Paul) Not only did Paul and his crew do a great job, but I really appreciated him identifying other problem areas and issues. (something other contractors have not done). I was very very satisfied with the work Paul/crew did! Highly recommend!

This guy is an artist, his work is fantastic and he has integrity and is very pleasant to work with. He is medium to high priced. He is the guy who ripped out all of the siding that another company completely botched and we can't praise his work enough. I never thought I would be excited about siding but we had some strange things (round windows) and this guy went to great lengths to make sure everything is water tight and aesthetically beautiful (and this is his normal way of working!).

I had a serious problem with rotten siding around a window and overall siding that was cosmetically in very bad condition (60yrs old) so it would not hold paint at all. I wanted Hardie siding so I found ERS in a general web search and on Angies List. Paul came out promptly, answered all my questions and then gave me an estimate. It was some time before I proceeded with the job and by that time I added changing 8 windows to the original job. Paul scheduled me in very quickly when I committed to the work. Paul and the ERS crew worked quickly, communicated well as the work progressed, kept the area clean and produced high quality results. This was a very good experience. ERS is probably not the cheapest bid, but I knew I had a problem with one wall of the house. I wanted someone who could fix that issue properly without ripping me off, so I feel I definitely made the right choice. Replacing the rot and termite structural damage was done in one day and ready for the inspector to sign off the next week.

An exceptional and excellent contractor! After several recent experiences with less than acceptable contractors, it was a pleasure having ERS work on our house. Paul Edwards, owner of ERS, shows that he has pride in the quality of his company s work. He was constantly on the site supervising and inspecting his workers and was continually checking with us to ensure we were satisfied with the quality of the work. They stayed on schedule and within our budget and were flexible in working with us on a few minor changes. I defiantly recommend ERS and Paul's team for any similar siding and window-installation projects!
