When he said he would be here, he was! This alone is a big deal.
Paul is easy to deal with and has a good sense of humor. His workers were efficient, respectful and careful.
The deck is gorgeous! I could not ask for more.
Our two story home was loaded with 30+ year old aluminum windows, many of which no longer worked properly. We received many quotes from companies wanting to replace them with "retrofit" vinyl windows. After much research, we decided to go with new construction style windows instead, as they have a much better inside and outside appearance. This option costs a little more, but the end product is far more visually appealing and gives you a brand-new water tight seal around every window (retrofit windows simply rely on your existing trim, flashing, etc.). Paul walked through all of the measurements and options for the windows we chose, often giving us good design insight and recommendations.
As they began to remove the old windows, it became clear that many areas of our siding, trim, and plywood underneath were on their last legs due to years of water penetration. Paul walked us through several options and we ultimately settled on replacing all of the siding and trim instead of simply patching the areas with the worst damage. The James Hardie products they used are of high quality and are not susceptible to rot or termites, yielding an exterior that not only looks stunning but will last for a lifetime.
Paul and his crew were simply wonderful throughout the duration of the project. They were always on time, worked with care and precision, and never cut corners. It was clear from the start that they cared about the quality of their workmanship and did not quit until we were completely satisfied with all aspects of the project. Paul has a keen eye for good design and even threw in a brand-new Marvin french door simply because he knew it would make a big difference in the appearance and functionality of our back room. The end result exceeded our expectations, both in terms of quality and value. We would not hesitate use Paul and his amazing crew again in the future.
Simply put, ERS was outstanding.
Some high points:
Communication: Paul pro-actively communicated just the right amount; whether the news was good or not-so good, he made sure I knew what was going on and what to expect. He was very approachable and easy to get ahold of. He checked in frequently to make sure that I was satisfied and quickly addressed anything that needed attention. I never felt like I was getting a ?story?, I felt like I was dealing with a businessman. This is a big plus in my experience. In addition, each of his crew was very attentive and communicative as well. If I asked a question, they were good at giving answers or finding the answer out.
Attention to detail: Paul and his team put a lot of emphasis on the details ? both what would perform well and what would look good. This is another area where Paul excels and his team does as well. Back to communication, Paul would point out the design issue, make a recommendation but let me make the decision. His explanations made it easy to grasp the situation and come to a satisfying choice.
Quality outcome: The best feedback for quality will be how everything holds up in 20 or more years. Since the job is just done, my comments are from watching the team work: they seemed to take pride in their workmanship and held to a standard that was consistent with the quality of the materials.
Respect: Aside from materials and design, there are a lot of little things that add up to a satisfying experience ?or not. I felt that my time, resources and property were respected from the first day to the last.
While my initial choice of going with ERS was around availability, if I needed to go through another exterior remodeling project, I would absolutely seek out Paul Edwards and the ERS team. My house was in the hands of experts ? and it shows.
Paul was very transparent the entire time - I knew exactly what they were doing and why, he ran all the options past me, always asked for feedback, which was invariably "please do what you think is best, i trust you unconditionally".At no point did Paul try to jack up the price or "invent" additional charges - everything was very clear and transparent. When the full extent of water damage was discovered we discussed the options and amount of work needed to fix it; and all of the additional fees were clear and fair. Moreover, they didn't need to install sheetrock which they initially assumed and priced in, and Paul discounted the overall project price by that amount.
I have never found a more conscientious and straightforward and trustworthy contractor than Paul and his guys. They were on time, they worked hard, they clearly take pride in their work and do it very very well.
I had a very delicate situation since the only way to get to that side of the house is from neighbour's yard - scaffolding had to be on the neighbour's property with a young vulnerable tree right to the side of scaffolding. They took great care to be polite and careful with my neighbour's property, regularly cleaned up after themselves and were very careful not to disturb the neighbour's life.
My wife has done a lot of work with various contractors in the past (she used to run a color consulting business) and was very impressed with their professionalism. I was extremely happy (thanks AgiesList!) to find Paul, and I can't recommend him enough.
It's a no-brainer - you hire Paul, and all your big problems and al the unforeseen little details will be solved without you having to worry about it.
