"I needed a complete redo of my 1970s electrical. He gave me a good estimate. Then I added a bunch of stuff. It was around Christmas too. But they were available and squeezed in my emergency between their other appointments. Minus half a start for a couple unfinished plug plates but really no biggie. My project I'm sure was annoying and Walter Electric was awesome!"

Customers say: Quick response

"Steve did several items for me. Installed a smart thermostat, ring doorbell, switched out several lights and installed a new solar outdoor light. All was done with no fuss and he made sure I understood the devices and their operation before he left. Would have no hesitation in recommending Steve and plan to use him for all my electrical needs in the future."

"Robert Soto from Blue Bolt Electric removed my old hanging lights over my kitchen bar and replaced with new hanging lights! Robert is very professional, prompt, and did an excellent job. I am very satisfied with the job he did. He also replaced my bathroom heater fan which will be completed after Wednesday when it will get patched up around the fan since it was smaller than my ancient old one that was beyond repair."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, it's possible to have electrical receptacles and overhead lights on the same circuit. The reason is that lights typically use much less power than large appliances, so combining them won't overload your circuit. By doing this, you can distribute the power consumption throughout the breakers in your panel more efficiently, which can be helpful if you have a lot of different electrical devices in your home.

No, there aren’t additional code requirements for kitchen lights. Kitchen lights and other electrical circuits in the kitchen have different code requirements. Outlets need to be particularly robust because of their frequency of use and proximity to liquids. If you need help determining where to install outlets in your kitchen, consult a local electrician who can ensure that placement is functional and up to code.

Window ACs use 500 to 1,400 watts per hour of electricity, while mini-splits use 500 to 700 watts per hour. However, if you need to cool multiple zones in your house, your mini-split can use as much as 2,000 watts per hour. How often you run your system will impact how much electricity you use (and how much you pay per month).

Smart meters send the readings over a wireless wide area network (WAN) to the power company. This network allows sending small amounts of data slowly over long distances, which is perfect for smart meter readings that occur monthly. If you would prefer a smart meter, contact your power company and consider springing for the cost of replacing your electric meter.

If you’re interested in exploring other avenues to completely upgrade your electrical panel, it’s also possible to add a sub-panel, which is a smaller panel that connects to what you currently have in place. This way, you can add additional circuits without having to swap out your main panel.
