Customers say: True professional

"Highly recommend this electrician! He installed my chandelier at a very fair price and went above and beyond by coming up with a smarter wiring solution that avoided cutting into the drywall. That saved me a lot of extra repair and restoration work. Professional, thoughtful, and efficient—exactly the kind of service you hope for."

"Carlos immediately responded to a Home Advisor inquiry to install the wiring in a new garage. We liked his work so much that we employed him to check the circuits after a leak in our rental house and to remedy a poor wiring installation at our primary residence. He returned my initial and subsequent calls immediately, was on time for all appointments and installations, completed the work within the estimated time and charged a fair price, everything one could ask for in a construction professional. We will be calling him for any and all projects in the future and will be recommending him to all our friends."

"If anyone has ever had a electrical panel installed, they know it’s a long process. You are dealing with the City, Electricity Company and inspector, it is very time consuming and if you don’t know what you are doing, it becomes very frustrating. Christopher was so helpful. He was there when I had questions and explained how to get permits, who to call and when to call then. He was very professional when he installed the panels and made sure everything was done properly. He price was very reasonable and we did not feel we were being taken advantage of. I highly recommend Christopher’s Company."

"I had a whole house fan installed. Paul was extremely helpful over the phone and gave valuable information. The install was a bit tricky but Robert and Paul did an outstanding job of trouble shooting and keeping the install at the price quoted. Both were exceptionally knowledgeable about the install and were very helpful in answering all the questions that were asked. I would hire them again in a minute."

"It went great. Eddie asked several questions to make sure we were on the same page. He made a few suggestions and got to work. He installed ceiling fans in the bedrooms and wall switches. He arrived early and was done by early afternoon. Eddie did a great job. So I asked him to install pot lights and connect to an existing switch in my kitchen. Again he did a great job. I asked Eddie to return next month to install lighting in my patio area. Thanks Eddie."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

The average cost to install a home generator is $5,200, but total costs can range from $500 to $18,000 or more. The final price depends on several factors, including the generator's size, type, brand, fuel source, and the cost of labor and assembly. The generator's size is the most significant cost factor, as units that can power larger homes with higher energy demands cost more.

Cost breakdowns by generator type are typically as follows:

  • Portable or Emergency Backup Generators (1kW–7.5kW): $500–$2,000

  • Partial-Home Generators (9kW–20kW): $2,000–$6,500

  • Whole-House Generators (22kW–48kW): $5,000–$18,000

To ensure you get the right size unit for your needs without overpaying, consider hiring an electrician to calculate the electrical load of your essential appliances. It is also recommended to get at least three quotes from qualified installers to find the best fit for your budget.

Portable generators provide backup power for essential appliances during outages and are easy to relocate.

Energy output depends on turbine size, average wind speed at your site, and system efficiency. A 5 kW turbine in a good wind location can generate 8,000 to 12,000 kilowatt-hours per year, which may cover a large portion of an average home’s needs. Accurate output estimates require a professional wind assessment and a review of your household’s energy usage patterns.

Generators are usually sized by running watts and starting watts. Ideally, you’ll want a generator that can offer both the necessary running watts and starting watts for everything you need to power without going beyond 90% of its capacity. Calculate your home’s electrical load based on the breakers in your home or adding up the appliance and lighting needs of connected rooms.

Generally, you’ll want to keep between 60 and 70 feet between the generator and the transfer switch. There are a few reasons for this, including:

  • The distance reduces the noise coming from the generator into your home.

  • It increases efficiency because you won’t have a voltage drop from this short of a distance.

  • Prevents carbon monoxide poisoning: keep at least 15 feet between your generator and an open window.
