"They were on time and installed the handrails and shower grab bars. I should have gotten a written estimate as they charged $50.00 more than quoted."

"Five stars from start to finish. Found Bay Area Electric on Home Advisor. James called ME the next day before I could call him. He asked me for more details about the job and then sent me a very reasonable proposal. I told him I'd like to proceed and he let me know the date for install - 4 weeks out. (Trades are so busy right now!) Danny and Tua showed up 10 minutes early and were friendly and professional. The light fixture over the sink could not accommodate the can light that I wanted due to a beam, but Danny offered up an alternate fixture that looks great. He checked in with us on spacing for the remainder of the lights as well as the height for the chandelier. They worked well together and I felt like we were partners in the project with them - letting them know our preferences and then they executed beautifully. Sooo pleased! I highly recommend them and will use them again!"

"I had 2 ceiling fan/lights installed in the bedrooms. Installation included 2 new circular circuit boxes in each bedroom ceiling. In addition, I replaced the kitchen ceiling light with an LED fixture. The 2 workers were very polite and professional and worked quickly and efficiently, in addition to being respectful of my personal belongings."

"They did a great job from beginning to end. They explained how the heat pump would work, installed it and I passed my HERS test in a 100 year old beach bungalow."

Doorbell Installation questions, answered by experts

R-30 insulation is better for higher thermal resistance, but whether it’s "better" depends on the application. R-30 is much thicker and suited for areas like attics or floors in cold climates, where more insulation is required. R-13, on the other hand, is thinner and works well for 2x4 walls or milder climates where less insulation is sufficient. Choosing between R-13 and R-30 depends on the area being insulated and the climate. For example, R-30 provides more insulation but may not fit everywhere in your home.

Yes, cold walls are a common indicator of poor or inadequate insulation, especially if the walls feel significantly colder than the air in the room. This suggests that heat from your furnace is escaping rather than being retained. The issue could be that the walls have no insulation, or that the existing insulation is old or has been damaged by water, moisture, or pests. Your best course of action is to hire a professional to investigate. An insulation contractor can determine if you need to add or replace insulation and can often perform the work without creating large holes in your drywall. If you suspect the problem might also be related to your heating system's performance, an HVAC technician can take a closer look.

Drywall insulation costs around $1,800, on average, but prices can range from $500 to $4,500, depending on a few different factors. The following things are important considerations to make when pricing out your insulation project:

  • Square footage of insulation

  • Type of insulation

  • Climate in your area and the insulation R-value required

  • Whether or not your walls are already finished

  • Accessibility of the area

  • Whether or not you need old insulation removed first

Unfaced wall insulation is easier to cut and install, making it the better choice for a DIY project. It’s also more affordable. But if it’s unfaced, you’ll likely need to add a vapor barrier to reach your desired R-value and efficiency, as it doesn’t offer any moisture barrier.

Faced insulation uses paper or foil to create a built-in barrier and doesn’t require an extra step. It’s also more fire-resistant and safe. But it’s quite a bit more expensive and a little bit harder to work with as a DIYer.

Depending on the item, several different materials are beneficial for long-term storage. Bubble wrap and plastic wrap help ensure delicate ceramics or furniture are safe and secure. High-quality moving boxes made of durable materials like plastic also help ensure the longevity of your storage, as cardboard will degrade faster over time.
