"We hired Tyson to insulate our exterior walls, remove old attic insulation and seal the attic, and then blow in new fiberglass attic insulation. In the course of removing the old cellulose, they discovered that we had no functioning heat/air duct system, which explained why our power bills were (literally as it turned out) going through the roof. They gave us a lead on a good HVAC service, and were very flexible while we sorted out the problem. Chris as the owner is very conscientious and good to work with, and makes sure his people do the job well."

"I'm extremely impressed with Luis and Icon Insulation. After moving into a 115 year old house about 5 months ago, and having a lot of contractors doing various jobs, Luis was a breath of fresh air! I had him Insulate my attic, and then I had him back again to insulate under our floor. I would highly recommend Icon Insulation to anyone I know. They are very responsive and answered all my questions before our appointment, punctual, professional, and have a great work ethic. (Something hard to find these days.) Thank you for your great work!"

"Fantastically well! I would highly recommend America One Insulation to anyone requiring insulation removal and installation. Their team worked non-stop to remove all the old insulation in our attic; putting in a 12 hour day. David, the owner of America One Insulation, followed up prior to the team arriving (a father and son) during the removal process, as well as that evening. One could not ask for a more professional company to do business with."

"Well, the first time the replacement was ordered it was the wrong one, which of course, delayed the installation a week. When it was finally installed I had to pay an additional $850 for code upgrades. This I was not informed of by Home Shield. Then we noticed that there was water on the garage floor and found that the pipe coming in from the wall was leaking at the wall so had to call the plumbing company back out to fix it. They first tried to say it was not their fault but since there wasn't a leak before they installed they did fix it. I have used Home Shield a few times before and never had a problem. Some of the companies they use are not the best so you have to research them before you commit. I have found HS service to be good if you do your homework. At the end of the day I was without hot water for almost 3 weeks but it was do to the plumbing company they sent out."

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

It’s less costly to drywall a fireplace than shiplapping it since material costs are higher for shiplap. However, if you’re DIYing the project, shiplap is less expensive since you won’t have to pay for labor. With drywall, getting a smooth finish is difficult unless you’re a pro. Shiplap is ideal for an accent wall or unique space, such as around a fireplace, since it adds texture and gives off a cozy vibe.

There are several benefits to wet-sanding drywall, but the main perk is that it produces far less dust than dry-sanding. As a result, wet-sanding poses fewer health risks and makes less of a mess in your home. Plus, damp sponges are less abrasive than sandpaper, so there’s a smaller chance of scratching or damaging the drywall paper. Wet-sanding also creates a smoother finish than dry-sanding.

Installing or repairing plaster on ceilings differs slightly from performing the same motions on a wall. You’ll apply slightly less plaster to lower the overall weight of the ceiling. Wall texturing is common, whereas most ceilings are smooth plaster. Tough coat plaster is strong, meaning you can use less while retaining a solid surface.

You can skim coat plaster, but it’s better to repair the plaster itself. A skim coat is a thin coat of drywall joint compound spread over the surface of a wall. The result is a flat finish that looks pleasing, but part of the appeal of plaster is its imperfections and aesthetic. Skim coating is best when limited to drywall applications.

While it’s most common to sand plaster dry, it is possible to wet-sand plaster, too. Doing so can reduce the amount of plaster dust released into the air and make it easier to work in smaller, more delicate areas (such as around wall trim). However, some people find that wet sanding leads to more imperfections, which is why larger walls are more often dry sanded to ensure an even finish.
