"Dave was punctual and was very hardworking, making sure my new decking system was installed correctly. He took the time to install each layer of the decking system and made the finished surface graded so the water drained off perfectly. I would hire him again if I ever need to redo my deck."

"Foothill Painting was very professional in responding to our original inquiry, we arranged a visit to obtain an estimate, and Joe came out, as scheduled, to size up the job.  Joe was very helpful in answering our questions and providing his opinions/advice as appropriate.  We received a formal estimate shortly thereafter in the mail and via email.  We had Joe come out one more time to ask him a few more questions since, at that point, we had narrowed down the remaining bids and, based on the discussions with various painting contractors, had additional concerns to sort out. The end result of the meeting with Joe was awarding Foothill Painting the job.

We decided on the colors, with some help from Joe, and scheduled the job. The painters (two of them) arrived as scheduled and worked on the project for the next 3-4 days, prepping first, then priming, then painting.  The stucco on our home had never been painted and it is a very rough finish, so much effort was required to insure that all surfaces were fully painted.  Joe would come by every morning to insure that all necessary supplies were on hand, to provide any directions for the day, and to address any questions, concerns, issues that might come up. The painters would pick up after themselves at the end of every day.

The one area for improvement, from our experience, would be a little more attention to prep work, as it relates to holes and rough surfaces (needing filling and sanding before priming), particular on the wood surfaces.  Joe's help in getting the small issues that surfaced resolved in a timely manner was much appreciated. He was a good listener and did his best to make us happy!

The staff in the office was professional, friendly and efficient throughout our entire experience with Foothill Painting. This was true from our original call, through scheduling visits, providing estimates, sending out invoices, and ending the process with a Thank You card for our business.  Well done!!

"Steve and his entire crew are all very professional, hardworking, detail oriented and they produce very high quality work. I am extremely satisfied with his work and services, and would strongly recommend In-Line General Construction for any/ all Remodel Work. Steve helped us with obtaining necessary approvals (HOA) and building permits(City) before the start of our remodel. During the remodel, Steve was always ready to answer any questions and many times suggested me ways to save money without sacrificing quality. Steve was very patient in accommodating and incorporating many of my last minute changes. He and his crew have thorough knowledge of all building systems as well as experience working on them. All the work was performed on time (barring some rain delays during winter) with emphasis on quality and perfection. Steve visited the site at least 2-3 times a week to check the work progress and made every effort to keep the site neat and tidy. Steve suggested vendors for various materials and all of them were very reasonable. He also suggested a Replacement Window Company that we worked with to fit in our overall remodel schedule. I truly appreciate Steve's willingness to help the home owner/s and will not hesitate to contact him for any of my future remodel needs."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.

Composite decking might cost more upfront, but it delivers value in terms of durability. Unlike wood, composite material resists common deck problems such as rotting, fading, warping, and all the other things you don’t want a deck to do. The extra processes lead to a higher price tag, but you’ll save big in maintenance costs down the road.

There are ways to clean your deck to help maintain a clean appearance. You can easily remove surface-level dirt and grime by wetting your deck with a hose and doing a quick scrub with store-bought deck cleaner monthly.

However, investing in professional deck cleaning services near you at least twice a year is worth it. This service saves you time and ensures that your deck will avoid accidentally becoming scratched by blasting the pressure washer at the wrong angle.

Yes, but ensuring the deck has a solid foundation with adequate footings is critical before building, as the weight of a sunroom will put significant pressure on the structure below. Even if your deck is properly constructed, it may not be able to handle the extra weight. While some basic, lightweight, prefabricated sunrooms can sit on a deck with a strong existing foundation without additional supports, in many cases, the foundation and joists will need reinforcement. It is always best to have a structural engineer perform an inspection to evaluate the deck's quality and structural integrity. A professional can help you decide if reinforcement is sufficient or if it's better to tear down the deck and start over.

Yes, deck pier blocks can be used as an alternative to traditional deck footings, particularly for small or low-to-the-ground decks. Unlike poured concrete and buried post footings, deck blocks don’t require digging or pouring. However, their use is regulated by local building codes, and they may not be permitted in areas prone to high winds, earthquakes, or hurricanes. Always consult your local building codes before choosing them for your deck project.
