"Robert at Affordable Junk and Hauling was professional, efficient, and affordable. He responded quickly to my search for someone to haul away a "dead" refrigerator/freezer and communicated effectively to confirm my appointment time, etc. If you have anything to be hauled away, don't hesitate to hire Robert."

"Miller and his colleagues were able to do a lot of things quickly. Along with everything else, they also grabbed some old furniture that I needed help moving to the curb. They took several cares to make sure nothing was damaged during the move, including wrapping the furniture, turning off all the lights, and packaging the picture frames."

"I had about 5 acres to get cleared out from over growth, I called Freedom Forest Management and a gentleman named Levi was out at my property two day later to give me a quote, the quote they gave me was a little pricey compared to others but they were able to get to it in a couple of days compared to others that were 3-4 weeks out. They did a bang up job cleaned the area up really good even trimmed up a tree I had since he said needed it to help with growth. I definitely got the quality of work I paid for and then some."

"Concrete Unlimited installed a septic tank and septic bed, trenched and installed a long water line, removed and hauled stumps, made log decks, cleared slash, graded and prepped our cabin site, artfully placed rocks and boulders that were uncovered in the process. Our remote lot had many constraints and he navigated through them beautifully -- and on time. My husband has seen heavy landmoving equipment operated by many people during his career and interacted with many companies on projects. Following the Carr and Dixie fires, where we lost our home and our family cabin, we again saw how various contractors approached and completed projects throughout our neighborhoods. Jesse Gorbet, Concrete Unlimited, and his crew are among the very best we've seen. Deft, nuanced, insightful, graceful, and considerate are not adjectives that normally come to mind with these types of projects but they do here. He was refreshingly excellent in communication, keeping us up to date, suggesting ways to save money and also setting up the project to make it easier for building in the future. Jesse was an absolute pleasure to work with, an unexpected gift. To have one contractor work with us to handle all these tasks themselves, and so professionally, was stress free. We highly recommend him."

Hauling questions, answered by experts

Preparation involves site assessment, clearing debris, grading surfaces, and compacting soil to support stable construction.

If you choose to break down a piano on your own, a 10-yard dumpster should be large enough to hold the individual parts. Keep in mind that junk haulers may not allow you to place a whole piano in a rollaway dumpster, but this will depend on the company, your contract, and local laws. That being said, choosing the right dumpster size will save you from the headache of over-filling the container during your cleanout.

Since you’ll likely be sorting through and getting rid of unwanted items anyway, this may be the perfect time to also plan for a garage sale. This way, you can think through how you want to price your items and group them for sale as you’re purging them from your home. You may also save on having to hire a service to haul away your items, and you’ll make money selling your items instead! Worst case, you can always drop off whatever you don’t sell at your nearest consignment store or donate to a charitable organization.

Costs depend on item size, accessibility, and additional services like disconnection or recycling.

While a biohazard cleanup sounds like a scary process, knowing what to expect can help ease your concerns and set you up for success. It’s good to note that more than one professional might be needed depending on your situation, but that will be determined during the assessment. What you can expect during a home biohazard cleanup is the following:

  • Assessment: The first step in this process is for a biohazard cleanup professional to assess the damage. They create a report that includes the biohazard safety level, the needed damage cleanup, and the time it should take to complete the project.

  • Setup: The cleanup professional prepares the site to prevent cross-contamination and reduce toxicity risk. This process can include tarping and creating decontamination zones.

  • Removal of surface contamination: Any contaminated materials are removed from the area, starting with large materials followed by small ones. The professional can assess any floor-related damage once everything is removed from the site.

  • Salvaging items: The biohazard cleanup professionals assess which items can be saved and which are contaminated beyond the point of saving. Those deemed unsafe will be disposed of immediately.

  • Waste disposal: The next step is carefully disposing of the hazardous waste. Your professional will place the contaminated items in specific containers to keep the contamination from spreading.

  • Disinfection: The house will be disinfected and odor-neutralized. Even more minor details, like light switches and bulbs, will be disinfected so that they do not recontaminate the area in the future.

  • Restoration: Once the decontamination is complete, the last step is to restore the home. This includes repairing the damage to flooring, walls, or even the home's foundation.
