"Great, once the job started, Kyle's crew was at my house punctually every day they were scheduled. They were always polite and courteous and not on their phones! They were not put out when I had questions or made changes, either. Kyle does a great job with hiring, his employees were great, as were sub contractors he recommended."

"IMike and his crew showed up on time and was super helpful in answering all of our questions and concerns. My coworker recommended Mikes company and we were so happy and impressed by the final work. His crew was polite and always cleaned up the site at the end of each day which is a plus for us. He may not be the cheapest but his quality of work shows for it. I will be using Gingys for future projects."

"Jose was a Godsend. Our kitchen cabinets are 35 years old and drawers came off track. Contacted many so called handymen. If they responded the wouldn’t take the job. Jose responded immediately. Gave a fair price and was so reliable. Good job great clean up and on time. Will hire him again. Thank you Jose."

"Dealing with contractors is never easy, and Ben is no pushover, but with very few exceptions, Ben and his crew do what they say they are going to do when they say they are going to do it, and they do it very well. What else can you really ask for from contractors. He's organized and a person of integrity. I liked that he sent a Google chart with supplies to purchase that we could work together that helped me figure out what kind of parts and tiles to purchase. Great experience and our bathrooms are amazing."

"McGee Construction has completed multiple large scale home renovation projects for me and my clients recently and have done an amazing job. These were complex renovations and they provided top-level expertise in all project scope areas and very high quality work. Larry McGee is very responsive to my client's needs and as a Designer, I only want to work with responsive contractors like McGee Construction, who care about their clients, and who are committed to doing the job right. "It’s hard to find an expert contractor that is also honest. John ensures his team produces high quality work. He’s there everyday to make sure it’s done right. The job was done expeditiously despite that his team was in high demand. It was much less stressful for us with his process to get everything delivered before the actual construction began. We love our new area so much that we hired him for our two bathrooms upstairs next."

Customers say: True professional

"We found McCormick home builders through Angie’s list. They were not one of our original contacts, but they contacted us and came out to give us a quote. Matteo was extremely helpful, informative, honest, and gave us reasonable realistic prices, and did not try to inflate the prices or pressure us in anyway. We felt very comfortable with him immediately. We felt like he was a member of the family that we could just talk to and ask questions he was very personable. He gave us his contact number in case we had other questions and he was always available when we needed him for any type of questions or concerns. Mateo‘s team did a beautiful job. They were fast. They were efficient. They cleaned up beautifully. They did a wonderful job. They were very considerate of our time our needs and our neighbors. They were an absolute pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Matteo from McCormick home builders for any home building projects, and we will be calling him again in the future!"

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Most of the time, you’ll want to use screws on your subfloor rather than nails. Nails can actually weaken plywood, whereas screws can easily penetrate without damage. They also form a more secure connection because of their shape, preventing squeaky floors and tightly holding the subfloor in place. That said, some contractors do prefer nails depending on the type of floor covering because they allow for more flexibility.

You can enclose an open carport, however, there are several things to consider before opting to do so. You'll want to check local building codes and permit requirements before proceeding to make sure it’s legal. While you can sometimes stick-frame a carport enclosure, pre-fab kits are also available. Remember that you'll likely need to meet concrete slab regulations and provide lighting inside the structure. Both of which could substantially drive up costs.

Yes, a 2x6 should hold a porch swing and safely support the load. A smaller joist runs the risk of it not offering enough support for the swing. If you have a joist smaller than 2x6, add additional bolstering support.

To calculate the number of linear feet of baseboard you’ll need, measure the length of each wall of the room you’re installing them in as close to the floor as possible, rounding up to the next full linear foot. If it’s your first DIY molding job, having a few extra feet on hand for miscuts is a good idea.

Framing with metal studs can be significantly faster than using wooden studs, provided you have some experience working with the material. While you can use virtually instant pneumatic nailers with wood, metal requires installing screws. However, because metal is lighter, straighter, usually comes cut-to-length, and doesn't require sorting for the best pieces, you can save significant time using metal instead of wood.
