Customers say: Quality work

"Jonathan Ma was great to work with. He was responsive, available to answer any questions via text, phone or email, and gave us good insight into the project scope. He would immediately respond to any inquiry, which I feel is extremely important. He provided us with design options on our home renovation project and gave us the pros and cons of each. There were some small issues/oversights that I noticed on the plans, based on my background in engineering that were quickly addressed and fixed. The only thing I would suggest to Design X Architects is to make sure plans are reviewed by in house drafters so that once they are sent to customers that are non-technical, the small oversights would get picked up and corrected before city submission. I highly recommend Design X Architects because of Jonathan's constant communication with me as a client and dedication to his work."

"We hired McCormick Home Builders to remodel our living room, and we are beyond pleased with the result. The team was professional, worked efficiently, and Aris design ideas made a huge difference. The room feels so much brighter and more spacious. This was the best decision we made for our home, and we were already planning our next remodel with them."

"Highly Recommend! I’m a builder, but I didn’t fully understand all the requirements for my home addition projects. Thankfully, I found Jin and he made everything so much easier. They helped with all the permitting for the garage port, front porch, and fence, navigating the tricky city rules I wasn’t familiar with. Jin made it so much easier. He created the plans required for permitting and handled all the paperwork and tricky regulations, while always kept us in the loop. What could’ve been a stressful process ended up being pretty smooth thanks to their expertise. We’re really happy with how everything turned out, and I’m so glad we had them in our corner. If you need help with an architect Jin will help you out!"

FAQs for custom home building projects in Foothill Ranch, CA

One starting point to find a local home builder is to collect suggestions from friends and neighbors. However, it’s still wise to do some more research before you hire a builder. Read reviews to supplement any word-of-mouth recommendations. Check sources like Angi that have standards and criteria in place to screen the pros it lists can also help you find more reputable local home builders.

Typically, it’s more affordable to buy an existing home than it is to build a new one. New construction loan interest rates tend to be higher than interest rates for traditional mortgages. Additionally, the cost of materials is likely higher when building a new home than it was when an existing home was built (unless it’s a very new one). You’re also paying for all new appliances, finishes, permits, inspections, and connections for water, gas, and electricity.

The average price per square foot to build a house is about $150 per square foot. Overall, the cost to build a house ranges anywhere from $100 to $500 per square foot, depending on where you build. The primary cost factors include location, size, and style of house you build.

The average cost to hire an architect for your home project ranges between $2,200 and $10,500. However, depending on location and project type, you might end up paying as little as $600 or as much as $45,000 or more. For example, the average cost of hiring an architect in North Carolina is between $1,800 and $2,000, but in California, that price tag jumps to $3,600 to $15,200

The price you pay for your architect also depends on their experience level. For example, a principal architect, the firm's owner, typically charges $150 to $250 per hour. However, an intern architect with three to five years of experience usually only charges $45 per hour.

Knowing if you need an architect for your project can be tricky, especially if you've never worked with one before. In general, small remodeling projects like replacing fixtures typically don't require the expertise of an architect. However, larger projects, like moving walls or adding an addition to your home, should include an architect to ensure the project is structurally sound.
