"Great business. Victor was prompt with an answer as soon as I contacted him. An appointment was made for a few days after our talk. Victor arrived exactly on time. The work he did was outstanding. I own a newer home and the lights he replaced in my kitchen look so much better now than what had originally been installed by the builder. The LED lights that were suggested by Victor are an upgrade as well. Victor performed the job quickly and efficiently. He was very friendly and professional. I would highly recommended to anyone who needs an electrician to not hesitate to call Tower Power Electric. I will be using Tower Power again. Thank you Victor!"

"It went well the technician was professional and the communication was great. I was disappointed that Choice Home put a cap on the ceiling fan price. I feel it works better if you base your price off of what fan the customer has and not a standard price"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Hiring an electrician to install a new ceiling fan may be the best course of action. Installing a ceiling fan requires basic electrical and mechanical knowledge. It also requires holding it up with one hand and in an awkward position, making the installation even more difficult. If you’re uncomfortable with these circumstances, your best bet is to hire a professional.

To determine if your ceiling box can support a fan, you must check if it is specifically fan-rated. Manufacturers are required to indicate this on the box itself. You may need to remove the existing light fixture to look inside the ceiling box for an inscription stating it is rated for fan use. If you do not see this confirmation, the box is likely not strong enough and must be replaced with a fan-rated junction box. For a proper and safe installation, you should also use a fan brace to secure the new box between the ceiling joists, which provides the necessary support for the fan's weight and motion.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.

Generally, a ceiling fan should be mounted at least seven feet from the floor in the center of your room with a wall clearance of around 18 inches. If your ceiling is more than eight feet high, it’s recommended by experts that the ceiling fan be mounted around eight to nine feet from the ground. This helps ensure a better quality of circulated airflow.

If your home already has wires for a ceiling fan (and optional light kit), then it’s quite safe to wire and install it yourself. Always be very careful to shut off the power before you begin, and confirm that the power is safely off with a non-contact voltage tester before touching anything. It’s also highly recommended to use eye protection, rubberized gloves, and tools with rubber handles to keep yourself safe from electric shock.
