Small jobs welcome

"We hired ABC Drywall for popcorn removal and skip trowel texturing of the ceiling. The finished product was excellent and the cost was very competitive. Tewah is a very sincere and trustworthy person. On the four days he was in our home, he showed up on time, was polite, and cleaned up after himself. I felt comfortable inviting him into my home and having him around my family. Given the opportunity, I would work with Tewah and ABC Drywall again. Thanks again, dude!"

Customers say: Super punctual

"Juan did a great job meeting my drywall needs. I had a ceiling leak in a rental unit I own. After I did the mold remediation, Juan replaced the affected drywall and texture-matched to the surrounding ceiling perfectly."

"Hector and his son are very pleasant and easy to work with. I asked them to be complete by a certain date and they actually finished a little earlier. I highly recommend them and their cost is reasonable. If I need other drywall work done I would readily call them again"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

You can paint over plaster, but repair any damage to the plaster first, or the paint will crack and bubble. You should also prepare the surface of the plaster to accept paint, which gives your paint job the best chance of looking good and lasting a long time. Before applying the color you want, apply a coat or two of primer. Additionally, use latex paint, and choose a latex paint with a satin finish for areas with dampness, like bathrooms.

Yes, drywall nail pops are a common occurrence in homes, both new and old, resulting from the settling and shifting of the structure over time. Though not present in every room or on every wall, encountering nail pops in different sections of a home is not unusual, particularly if the temperature, humidity, or foundation has experienced changes.

If the holes in the plaster are small, you can fill them with layers of patching plaster until they’re filled. After it dries, you can sand the plaster and paint over it. If the hole is much larger, consider using bonding plaster first and then a layer of patching plaster, completing the process with sanding and a layer of paint.

Whether a drywall anchor can be reused depends on its material, type, and the method of removal. Plastic anchors, including expansion and self-drilling types, are generally designed for single use as they tend to break or deform upon removal. Metal anchors, such as toggle bolts, are more durable and may be reusable if they are not damaged during extraction. However, with toggle bolts, the toggle piece can fall into the wall cavity when the bolt is removed, making it difficult to retrieve. If an anchor is damaged during removal, for instance by having its head cut off, it cannot be reused regardless of the material.

All plaster walls will crack over time due to normal house settling and expansion and contraction from temperature and moisture changes. Small, thin hairline cracks are generally not serious and are mostly a cosmetic issue. However, larger or more significant cracks can indicate structural problems.

Here's how to tell the difference:

  • Cosmetic Cracks: Cracks that are 0.5 cm (0.2 inches) or thinner are typically cosmetic.

  • Structural Cracks: Cracks wider than 0.5 cm, excessive or deep cracks, multiple cracks in the same area, or cracks that span around corners can signify a structural or foundation issue. Cracks along the joints where walls meet the ceiling also warrant attention.

For cracks wider than 0.5 cm, structural repair is needed. If a crack is 2.5 cm (1 inch) or wider, or if you notice any signs of a structural problem, it is best to contact a plaster repair professional to assess the damage.
