"I wasn't happy with it, and I had to have them back out a couple of times. It is not a big deal, it happened a year ago. I paid them cash $1000, I paid them a check and they said they never got the check, I had to send them copies of the check. Their accounting department leaves a little to be desired. I wasn't happy with the work and the aftermath. I would not use them again. "

"Kevin works with an extensive team of seasoned professionals who know their craft. Everyone was knowledgeable, courteous and helpful throughout.
We went over our initial budget, partly because some electrical problems from an earlier renovation arose that needed repairing, and partly because we added a number of bells and whistles after the initial estimate. But for example, the custom maple cabinetry cost far less than we were quoted elsewhere and included a lot of special touches, such as an appliance garage, a cutlery drawer, and a pull-out, multi-shelf spice drawer.
At each step in the process, Kevin kept us apprised of costs and got our approval before any work was done. And for all the extras we requested during construction, we had a brand-new kitchen just a couple of days after the original estimated completion date. We couldn?t be happier with the results. Every remodeling job has its glitches and challenges, and ours was no exception, but Kevin went the extra mile to make sure were getting our dream kitchen. And in the end, that?s exactly what we got. Our new kitchen is a joy to cook in ? and we have Kevin and his team to thank for that.

"If you're looking for a reliable, honest contractor that has great design sense and an incredible work ethic, look no further. This was my first remodel and I was really nervous after hearing so many contractor horror stories from others. I feel like I hit the jackpot with SGI and the team. They guided me through the whole process and the end result was exactly what I wanted in my dream kitchen and bathroom. Every day of our project I would come home to a clean workspace and progress was made on schedule. With two little kids in the house that meant everything."

"Before remodel, we had 1440sqft of living space; afterward we had 1891sqft, but it made the whole house "work" better and feel bigger.  Also, the roof space increased by 1,000sqft, which enatiled much more work than the additional 450sqft represents.

We feel lucky to have found Anthony Fiore as our contractor. He was recommended to me by a friend at work, and he made the entire project as pain-free as it could be.  He stayed in constant communication with us, worked with us on changes in scope, and helped find reasonable and affordable solutions to unforeseen problems.

We spent a lot of time up front thinking about what we wanted, getting information on materials and other costs, and assessing our financial risk. We even created a 3D model of our house and fiddled with it for a good year so we could see the impacts of the structural changes to the existing house and evaluate approaches to problems. (Here, I have to plug the fabulous FREE modeling app we used, which was Google Sketchup.)

Maybe that's overkill, but it enabled us to try different things, know the limitations, and do our own rough calc on what we should expect to pay for materials.  But mostly, we figured that since remodelling a house is a huge hassle and a seriuoous expense--and WE were the ones who would have to live witht the results--we wanted to give ourselves every opportunity to explore the potential upsides and the possible downsides.

We then put together a package of dimensioned views and requested bids from 5 contractors.  Each bidder had the EXACT same package to use for their bid, but they still came in with a $50K spread between the highest and lowest bids.

Like most people, we chose the lowest bid, but only after calling all 10 of his references and getting glowing reviews of his attention to detail and his excellent management of the project. He was also the only one who provided references with his initial bid.

After we engaged Fiorebuilt, we modified the scope to include vaulted ceilings, an upgraded electric panel and upgraded roofing materials--all of which increased the price considerably, yet it was still well below the two highest original bids, which did not even include that work. So we were confident that we could tolerate (financially) the remaining uknown risks.

Our final calculation of the cost per sqft, when considering the extra roofing footprint and work done on on walls that went down to studs came in at what we'd expected to pay when we started the project. And what people often forget is that time plays a huge role in how well the project goes.  Anthony's crew showed up every day, on time and worked hard. Between his management of the project and their diligent effort we are one week away from finished after just 11 weeks.  That is a HUGE boon to us!

Because we're pretty handy, we planned to do some parts of the work ourselves to save cost--like running Cat5 wire and coax through the walls, setting the fireplace and stove vents, and similar "detail" work.  We made sure Anthony was always aware of our plans and he worked to accommodate all of our many (many!) reqests. He offered advice and recommended resources as needed.  He even came out on a Sunday to check out some plumbing we'd done to make sure it was up to code and wouldn't interfere with the work he was doing.

In sum, I'm taking the time and trouble to write this review because we've all heard horror stories about bad remodel experiences.  I want people to know that there are some contractors who can make it a worthwhile endeavor.  I think of Fiorebuilt as the "gold standard."  I know that from now on, if we want anything done to our house, Anthony Fiore will be our first phone call--and probably the only call we'll need to make.

If anyone belongs on the Pages of Happiness, Fiorebuilt Construction certainly DOES!"

"I had a great experience working with David and his company, DS1 Construction.  From the very start, David was prompt on arrival to perform an estimate on work.  He said that he treated big and small jobs with the same attention and respect and he proved that through out the course of the job.  He responded promptly after our first meeting with an estimate via e-mail.  I interviewed 8 contractors for this job. I received estimates from 5. DS1 gave me the most detailed and realistic estimate in my opinion.
The entire scope of the job was discussed.  This was a renovation complicated by the previous owners poor home improvement attempts. The kitchen and bathroom cabinetry and counters were replaced.  The interior floors were demolished and replaced with ceramic tile.  All the demolished materials were disposed of by DS1. The patio area had been poorly tiled by the previous owner, so the tile was removed, concrete prepared, color stained and sealed.  All the bathroom and kitchen fixtures were replaced along with the garbage disposal. An over cooktop microwave and vent were installed along with a new subway tile backsplash.
David was available by phone or e-mail throughout the job.  Payment schedules were clear and he never once asked for payment before all of the work on the schedule was completed to my satisfaction.  The condominium complex this unit is in has very strict criteria for any contractor on premises.  DS1 had no problem meeting all requirements and proving all insurances were active and in place, and all licensing requirements were met. To top this all off, I was working with David and DS1, LONG DISTANCE!  David made the process , that is usually stressful, super easy. With the help of a friend of a good friend in LA, each stage of the project was inspected and as each stage of the job was complete, payment was made as agreed in our written contract. I would not hesitate to work with David and DS1 Construction in the future or recommend anyone else to speak with David and his company to get an estimate on their construction project.  I found David and DS1 to be consistent in their work ethic and performance. I am very pleased with the work performed and the quality of product used by DS1.

Fountains questions, answered by experts

Regularly clean pumps, remove debris, and monitor water levels to prevent algae growth and clogging.

DIY kits exist, but professional installation ensures proper filtration, landscaping, and leak-proof construction.

To maintain your pond, you’ll need to occasionally clean your backyard pond, especially if you have koi fish. Test the water twice a week to make sure your fish have everything they need and always remove visible debris.

You can use the outdoor spigot to do many things like cleaning patio furniture, washing down driveways, or watering plants. You can also attach outdoor hoses and some sprinkler systems to your spigot, making it much easier to keep your grass and plants watered. When connecting a hose or sprinkler system to your outdoor spigot, pay close attention to the manufacturer’s instructions, as they can ensure a snug fit with no leaks.

When deciding whether or not to turn off your pump, you should consider your area’s climate and the aquatic life in your pond. If you live in an area with freezing winter temperatures and don’t have any wildlife, keeping your pump on could damage it. If you have aquatic life but live in a colder climate, you might consider keeping your pump running and adding a pond heater.
