"My house is very old so we have been having lots of drain/pipes issues.  With 5 grown kids in the house you can imagine what happens when a bathroom is down.  Thank goodness I found The Drain Guys through YELP! My drains knows no time/day it wants to back up and normally it never happens during business hours.  This company not only came out after hours but came out within the hour and relieved me of my problems fast, quick and it was worth the $99.00 charge.  Ed was very professional (some techs are mad when they have to work OT), friendly, put my mind to ease and even looked at another problem (faucet) without hesitation or charging me to just give me an estimate for the faucet.  I had him come back the next day to fix my faucet and gave FREE inspection underneath my house. First class service with AFFORDABLE prices.  When the office called me to let me know they were with Angie's List I jumped at the change to enroll JUST TO PUT OUT THIS REVIEW!  Great Job Drain Guys!  You have a customer for life. [Member name removed]"

"The plumbers were very knowledgeable and quickly figured out the problem with the faucet installation and how to fix it. They also spotted that the “new” faucet contained parts that had been used before, and we got the store to provide new replacements for them."

"Almost immediate scheduling (next day) and professional and courteous installation. My only disappointment was that the technician who arrived did not know I had purchased the Angie's List voucher which resulted in some confusion re: payment. However, Top Service Plumbing acted professionally to rectify it. What I appreciated was that Top Service Plumbing answered my calls each time I contacted them, even on a Friday evening and weekend."

"Love this company! My kitchen sink wasn't draining. Which was a HUGE problem since I was hosting a party that day. It was a Sunday morning so I was extremely worried about not getting someone out. I called first thing in morning and within an hour, I had a knock on my door. My technician was Joshua Williams. He was very professional, friendly, and extremely thorough. He fixed the issue in less than 30 minutes, cleaned up and went on his way. The price was great especially considering I called on a Sunday. I will for sure use them again! Thanks, Active!"

"When we purchased the house, it was a 30 year old home. Almost everybody in the period of five years to seven years wanted to convert to copper plumbing. So what they offered at that time was anyone you referred to if they chose to use their service, you have $500 cash payment which was really nice because half of our neighbors and our family members used them. I do not know what they do now, but it is a really nice service because they are a very good company. They did a great job."

Drain Pipe Installation questions, answered by experts

It is generally not recommended to pour hot or boiling water down a drain to unfreeze pipes due to significant risks. In some cases, the sudden temperature change can cause more ice buildup or produce steam, which increases pressure and could cause the pipe to burst, leading to costly damage and potential burn injuries. While hot water might help with a partially frozen drainpipe, it is unlikely to thaw a completely blocked water pipe further down the system. Additionally, boiling water can damage plastic pipes over time. Safer and more effective methods include using a space heater near the frozen section or applying hot towels directly to the pipe.

Yes, you can pour water down the toilet to help it flush. For each flush, you’ll need 1 to 2 gallons of water for newer toilets or 3 to 5 gallons of water for older toilets. Rather than dumping the entire bucket in all at once, pour the water in slowly for the best results. If you’re pouring water down the toilet to help it flush after a clog, only use 1 gallon of hot water.

A bit of water in the bowl can help unclog a toilet, especially if you're using a plunger. However, if the bowl is full to the brim, you'll need to strap on gloves and remove some of the wastewater in a cup or container so it doesn't overflow when you try to unblock the pipe. If you're concerned about it filling further, manually close the flapper in the toilet tank or turn off the water supply to the toilet.

Start by pouring hot—but not boiling—water down the drain. The heat of the water may be enough to break down the clog. You can also try ½ cup of dish soap or 1 cup each of white vinegar and baking soda. If you choose a chemical unclogging product, ensure it’s appropriate for toilets to avoid damage.

Some experts estimate that descaling your cast iron pipes can extend their lifetime by upwards of 50 years, although there’s not a lot of research to prove it. But we do know that without proper maintenance, cast iron pipes can quickly rust—leading to more expensive issues like burst pipes or main line clogs.
