"It is so important to find an honest, trustworthy locksmith and Alan is definitely the best in the business. He is a total professional and I trust him to re-key my whole house. I have used him on numerous occasions - basically whenever anything goes wrong with my locks- and have recommended him to colleagues and friends. All have had equally positive experiences with both quality of work and price. I would not believe that other reviewer."

"The lock was not repairable at our home, so Kevin said he would take the broken part in and have it done at a local locksmith's shop, however this shop is closed on Saturday.  Kevin will be back on Monday to take the part in then and he thought it would be repaired very easily and quickly.  In the meantime, Kevin tried to make sure the door would temporarily lock for us by "tweeking" the lock.  He found some problems with our door, not the lock now.  He spent quite a bit of time working on the door without any additional charge or complaints.  He worked tenaciously to make sure we were safe and secure in our home until the real repair could be completed on Monday.  I can't say enough about how impressed I am at the work ethic I observed in Kevin and his company!!  I will call them again anytime I need lock help.

Well, things have not gone well since I posted my first review.  Since then, we have been stood up twice for appointments that we made to complete the lock repair.  We have tried to contact the company 6 times by phone and have received the message that the mailbox for this phone number is full and we should try later.  We now feel that the company is either no longer there or that it was some kind of scam!  We are not happy with this company AT ALL and do not recommend them.  One additional problem, there is no address on our receipt so we cannot even go by the business and talk to someone.  We are now left with no choice but to contact another locksmith and try to resolve our lock problem which is a big one, as we cannot use our front door.  It will not open at all.  It is locked shut!!!!!"

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Newer, electric-powered door locks generally have a life span of five years or less. That’s thanks, in large part, to a phenomenon called planned obsolescence, in which products are programmed to need replacing after a certain amount of time. That’s also why older, manual, push-key locksets can last up to 30 years with regular cleanings and maintenance. When it does come time for a new set-up, know that the cost to change locks ranges from $130 to $500 on average.

Lock bumping is a technique locksmiths use to quickly and quietly open a pin tumbler lock, typically found in most types of deadbolts. It involves inserting a specially crafted key, or bump key, into the lock and tapping or "bumping" it with a mallet or similar tool. The force applied causes the lock's pins to jump momentarily, allowing the lock to be turned and opened. Unfortunately, thieves also use this technique to break into homes. Luckily, products like a deadbolt strap will fortify your lock.

Begin by checking the power source, typically a battery or wired connection. Ensure the battery is installed correctly, has sufficient charge, and isn't corroded. If it's a wired lock, examine the electrical connections to confirm they are secure and free from damage. Additionally, inspect the lock's programming or settings. Confirm that user codes or access credentials are programmed correctly and that any remote control devices are paired and functional.

Yes, but adding a deadbolt to some door materials, like steel, may make installation a little bit trickier. For these materials, you will want to hire a locksmith to do the work for you, but be aware that they may charge an additional fee of $25 to $50 or more.

Yes, as long as it’s thick enough for the deadbolt. Most interior hollow core doors are at least 1 1/2-inches thick, which is usually the minimum requirement for a deadbolt. You’ll want to find the lock block first before installing. Also, most hollow doors require additional reinforcement for locks, such as a reinforcement plate or plywood block.
