"I discovered my water heater leaking this afternoon! Figured I would have to wait for an appointment. When I called Active Plumbing Solutions at 4:42pm, Jordan was very nice and professional. He set me up for an immediate installation. Right then! His estimate of "about an hour and a half" was incorrect, however. Daniel, the tech, arrived in about 35 minutes. He already had the water heater I needed; which is a testament to the communication/organization between dispatch (Jordan) and the tech (Daniel) at Active Plumbing Solutions. The install went flawlessly and here I am at 7:17pm (same night) writing this review! Pricing was better than I had last year when I needed a repair and got 2 replacement quotes just in case. I could not imagine a better experience. Both representatives from Active Plumbing solutions gave GRADE AAA+++ Service. I will use their service again and recommend them to any and everyone who needs plumbing service."

"While this was not the lowest price bid for the job, I am glad we chose Bob and Marc plumbing.  The service technician was extremely knowledgeable and competent.  He found excellent solutions to the installation challenges in our home.   Installation in our house was very challenging and they did an amazing job.

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

The most effective way to fix hard water in your shower is by installing a whole-home water softening system. This system treats water as it enters your home, removing the minerals that cause hardness before they can reach your shower or any other fixtures. While this is the most comprehensive solution, other methods are often temporary fixes. For a more affordable and shower-specific option, you can install a water-softening showerhead or a shower filter. However, these filters are generally less effective and may not remove all the contaminants that lead to limescale and hard water stains. By implementing a water softening solution, you can expect a reduction in mineral deposits and enjoy the benefits of cleaner-feeling hair and skin.

Installing a water softener could help reduce calcium buildup in your pool if your pool has high calcium hardness as a result of hard drinking water in your home. Pool softeners work by exchanging calcium and magnesium for sodium, so if you use softened water to top off your pool, it may help keep calcium hardness from rising over time. However, it won’t lower the calcium hardness of the water already in your pool and isn’t a practical way to control pool calcium levels. The average water softener installation cost is between $200 and $6,000.

Yes. Hard water is what causes scale buildup, and a whole-house filter provides numerous benefits beyond water softening. Any water that enters your home will go through the filter, which cleans up all water that you will use for cooking, bathing, and drinking. A whole-house water filter also blocks harmful particles like heavy metals.

A water softener is a worthwhile investment if you live in an area with hard water. While hard water is safe to drink, it contains minerals like calcium and magnesium that can cause significant problems over time. These minerals build up inside pipes, reducing water flow and eventually corroding the plumbing system, which can lead to leaks and a shortened lifespan. Hard water also damages fixtures and appliances, potentially resulting in costly repairs. Additionally, it makes soaps and detergents less effective, meaning you'll use more product to get things clean. By installing a water softener, you can prevent these issues. The initial investment is often recouped through long-term savings, including lower energy bills, reduced appliance and plumbing maintenance, and spending less on soap and cleaning supplies. Other benefits include cleaner linens, dishes, and clothing, as well as softer water that is gentler on your skin and hair. In some areas, a water softener can also increase your home's value, making it a valuable long-term investment.

Most of the U.S. has hard water, especially across portions of the West and Midwest. The areas with the hardest water include parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Illinois, North and South Dakota, Ohio, and New York. You’ll find soft water in parts of New England, the Southeast, the Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii.
