"I'm putting my home on the market and needed it to be painted quickly. It has rained continually here in northern California so finding a few days of dry weather was tricky. Sure enough as soon as the sun came out for 3 days, the painters where working. They painted my whole house and detached garage in about 2.5 days. They cleaned up all the painting trash nicely and were very personable. And, the price was great! I would like to highly recommend L & S Painting!"

"SGB just finished painting the outside of my home along with the kitchen and two bedrooms. A good friend of mine referred them to me because she was so pleased with his work. There was plenty of detailed work on the outside of my home, and the stucco was in terrible shape. There was also dry rot repair that needed to be done that other contractors didn't even mention during the inspection of the home. When the job was complete, I was amazed. Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood, as this helps prevent the surface from cracking. However, it is crucial to wait for the wood to dry out completely from the chemical treatment process before applying a finish. If the wood is still wet, the paint will not adhere properly. The drying time can range from weeks to six months. To test if the wood is ready, drip some water onto a board. If the water is absorbed, the wood is dry enough for painting or staining. If the water beads up on the surface, it needs more time to dry. You can build with the wood while it's still wet, but you must wait for it to dry before painting.

You can weather a new wood fence by applying vinegar with steel wool as a way to fade some of the coloring. You may also find it easier to stain your entire fence a new color instead of trying to get newer fence boards to match an older one.

You can apply stain over peeling stain, but it’s not a good idea. Your old stain will get in the way of your new stain bonding to the wood, so you’re likely going to see the same issue again shortly after application. Your best option is to sand off the old stain and clean the surface thoroughly before applying new stain.

Stain is meant to be absorbed by the porous wood, allowing some of the natural grain to show through. With that in mind, you don’t want to add more stain than the wood can absorb, as you risk covering up its natural markings. Generally, two coats is the maximum you should do, although very dense hardwoods may only be able to take a single coat.

When applying multiple coats, wait four to six hours for each coat to dry. Not waiting long enough can result in streaks, peeling, and uneven color. Plus, it will be more difficult to discern where the second coat has already been applied.
