"Charles Trujillo did a great job patiently explaining how he was going to meet the challenge of attaching drywall to my cinder block wall and then he and his son followed through, completing the drywall and painting in two days. The quote was higher than some, but I am confident the work will hold up and it is backed by a year's warranty. Moreover, the crew did touchup painting of the ceiling and at my request returned to push my bed to the exact spot where it previously stood so no carpet pressure marks were visible."

"I was referred to WCD Masonry by a company whom I initially called for an estimate on our block wall that was leaning. The company happened to serve only areas in Orange County. Since I live in Los Angeles County , they referred me to WCD Masonry. William was professional and knowledgeable. It was a pleasure to work with him. He takes time to explain the details on what needs to be done to make the repair strong and lasting. His craftsmanship was beautiful and finished on time. I am happy that our block wall looks great again! Thank you, William!"

"Matt and his crew did a great job!
They were in and out in 2-days (others said it would be up to a week!)
The price was great.
Matt was professional and very easy to work with. He was willing to answer all my questions. He gave recommendations for how to fix the walls (which were damaged by the company that removed the acoustic ceiling). He was professional and gave very good customer service. And they took extra measures to protect our hardwood floors.
The final result looks great!
Previous companies said the ceiling was too damaged by the acoustic removal for them to fix. Or some companies wanted to charge more. One estimate was almost twice as much.
I would highly recommend Matt and his crew. They did an all around awesome job!
Thank you Matt!

"Tony and his crew were great. They were nice, professional and worked quickly. I had a kitchen light changed, running toilets fixed, 2 new bathroom faucets installed and flooring in front of the tub glued back down and molding sealed. They came in as a crew and knocked it out. So thankful I didn’t try to do it myself. It was well worth the money. Just a heads up, it may take a few days to get in touch with them. They were busy on jobs and wanted to make sure to call me back during respectable business hours, not after dark, which I appreciated."

"A crack had opened halfway up my vaulted living room ceiling, and I called to see if this was something that Caliber Drywall could repair. Ken contacted me shortly after my request and came out to inspect the ceiling. He described what would need to be done to repair the cracked area and how it would be completed, including painting. He gave me a quote for the job which included everything I needed done. The quote was lower than another I’d received through Angie’s which did not even include the painting on this very high ceiling area. I was very satisfied with the quotation and we scheduled the work to begin in two days. Ken And his assistant, Jason restored the ceiling, matching the old paint and it is virtually impossible to see where the repairs were done. They were punctual and very careful to be sure that there was no debris or damage to my living room and left the premises immaculate. I would highly recommend Ken and Caliber Drywall. I’m also glad that I did not follow up on quotations that were given to me over the phone by contractors who could not be bothered to come out to actually see the work that needed to be done. Ken and Caliber drywall set a very high standard for workmanship and I will definitely use them again if a situation arises requiring their skills."

"We couldn't be more pleased. Kyle's workers were true professionals and craftsmen who did quality work. Our 60 year old bathrooms look brand new! They did an amazing job of transforming the peeling and chipped paint on the ceiling an walls into a beautiful smooth surface. They cleaned up the workspace every day before they left and were really nice men who wanted to be sure we were pleased with their work. They did a fantastic job putting down a herringbone design "brick look" porcelain tile on the floors. Kyle is busy and I can see why...I had to wait about 8 weeks before he could start my project. He is definitely worth waiting for. His prices were great and I like that I could purchase the fixtures myself to make sure I got what I liked and could afford. I will definitely use Kyle again!"

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

Sand and gravel are two suitable options for filling behind a retaining wall. If you’re building your own retaining wall, you’ll complete this part of the process—known as backfilling—after you finish laying the blocks. Make sure not to skip it—otherwise, you could wind up with drainage issues, which can cause your retaining wall to collapse.

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

While vinyl is the least costly material for building a retaining wall, the most cost-effective method is to use wood or concrete blocks for a DIY retaining wall under 2 feet tall. Wood is inexpensive but lasts 20 years or more with care. Concrete can cost a little more but is stronger and will last longer with less maintenance.
