"Showed up on time. Called 30 minutes prior. Gave a very affordable price. When returning the next day to start work, Don called early and came by to knock it out. Did a great job and will work with Don in the future. As a result I will be mentioning this work and Don to anyone who needs repair, rebuilds or replacements."

"If anyone needs a job done, large or small, 4th Demention Construction can do the job. I was having a hard time finding someone at Home Depot or Thumbtack to replace floor tile and fix a fence post in my 4 year old Lennar home. I was stood-up twice and calls were not returned by Thumbtack referrals. HomeAdvisor referred me to 4th Demention. 4th Demention Construcion was extremely good about contacting me, giving me appointment choices, following up with reminders, and doing what they said they would do. The tile replacement project was professionally completed while the fence post that broke away from the cement was being replaced perfectly. Not only is the work excellent and the price fair, I appreciated the follow-up and courteous treatment to get the job done. I am more than happy to highly recommend 4th Demention for any remodeling. They are my "go to" general Construction company."

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on window size, type, material, and labor. Custom shapes or sizes typically incur higher expenses; full installation includes removing old windows.

Yes, egress windows are grandfathered. However, this comes with some specifications. If you are remodeling a basement or adding a sleeping area, you’ll need to update the egress windows to be up to proper code. But, if you’re leaving your home as is, you do not have to adhere to these requirements.

There are a range of egress window types available, including:

  • Single-hung: $100–$400

  • Double-hung: $250–$500

  • Horizontal/sliding: $150–$800

  • Casement: $200–$500

  • In-swing: $350–$700

When choosing a type of egress window, consider how you’d like to open it. For example, double-hung egress windows open from top to bottom and let plenty of fresh air in, whereas sliding windows slide open for easy access.

Finding a reputable contractor for an egress window installation involves researching and vetting potential candidates. Start by searching for local professionals, reading customer reviews, and checking their websites for a portfolio of their work.

Once you have a shortlist, ask the following questions to ensure they are qualified:

• Are you licensed and insured?

• What experience do you have installing egress windows?

• Can you provide references from previous customers?

• Do you perform the work yourself or use subcontractors?

• What is the estimated project timeline and your current schedule?

• How do you handle payment?

A good U-factor for windows is 0.30 or lower, but they can range from 0.20 to 1.20. A general rule of thumb when it comes to the U-factor is that the lower, the better.
