SoCal Climate Control

Climate control is a more sophisticated form of heating & air, which allows the temperature of the interior of buildings to be accurately controlled. This is different from air conditioning, which has its speed and amount of air controlled by a person. This form of HVAC is the future of comfort, and that's where SoCal Climate Control stands apart. We offer smart home solutions, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of zoning and energy efficiency, coupled with a "bang for your buck" attitude. Bringing the best of both worlds to your home, business, and family.

"DO NOT hire SoCal Climate Control (or AttiClean; Mike Molloy owns both and uses both for jobs) unless you want them to waste your time and take your money for an incomplete job that violates building code. We hired AttiClean for a simple job: install dampers on 2 duct lines, route a new duct to our kitchen, enlarge our intake grill & duct, and insulate our supply plenum. None of these 4 tasks were completed without issues. They showed up with the incorrect damper sizes, incorrect return grill size, and incorrect return duct size. Day 1 consisted of their workers running around getting correct material and concluded with them cutting into an attic beam that was not professionally assessed. When I asked the worker if he could cut the beam, he replied "I don't know" which was incredibly concerning. The job was stopped so that the co-owner's HVAC "professionals" at his other company, SoCal Climate Control, could resume the work the next day and assess the beam. Day 2: The co-owners Mike Molloy and Todd Morelli determined via picture they could cut the beam (a licensed individual never inspected the beam in person). Mike's workers from SoCal Climate Control were scheduled for 12pm, but they didn't showed up until after 5pm. They worked very fast, and concluded the job a little after 8pm. I had concerns that the workers would be tired and rushed and do a bad job, but I didn't know how bad until the next day when I went into the attic to see why my condenser pump wouldn't stop running. To start, I could barely even open the door. The new 18" duct line completely covered the attic door and encircled the attic entrance. This is a violation of building code and is illegal. As of today Mike, Todd, AttiClean, and SoCal Climate Control refuse to abide by code and fix this. Once I got around the ducting, I noticed 2 other issues: 1) there was also a large tear in the return duct at the return plenum, and 2) the new 18" duct was smothering our condensation pump and the workers wound the condensation line so tightly with a kink, it couldn't drain (hence the noise). This was a major issue because eventually our drain pan would fill and leak into our attic and ceiling. It took another 4 days to get back on the calendar and we were instructed to not use our AC in the middle of August until the repair. Day 3: AttiClean was supposed to arrive at 8am. They never showed. Instead, SoCal Climate Control got pulled in and didn't arrive until after 3pm (their window was 12-2pm). They tore apart the new ducting and attempted to reroute the line, but concluded they would have to find another solution. In the removal process, not only did they tear up the entire 18" duct line (exposing fiber glass insulation everywhere) they damaged another duct line not a part of the job (smashed our bathroom fan duct, rendering it completely unusable). Since it was late on a Saturday and no AC store was open, they said they would loosely put everything back together and come back the next week with the necessary material to finish the job. Not only did they never come back, they left us with more issues than they arrived with on Day 3. The attic entrance was still blocked and still violating building code; they never insulated our supply plenum per the original work order; the tear in the return duct to the return plenum was significantly larger and I'm pretty sure we have fiber glass fibers blowing now into our FAU and breathing air; the 18" duct line was completely torn up throughout; they smashed and tore apart our bathroom duct; and they removed a good chunk of our newly done attic insulation and never replaced it. The co-owner of AttiClean and owner of SoCal Climate Control, Mike Molloy, emailed us that they finished the job per the work order and if we want any of this fixed we would have to pay them the same cost of the job (essentially double). What a scam: "I'm going to completely block your attic entrance for $900; you want that fixed? $800 more please." Images can speak for themselves. Please save yourself the time and energy and go with another company. We are now in the process of hiring another company to clean up their mess. All of this could have been avoided with better management, quality training, and appropriate processes in place; a direct reflection of the leadership and ownership of these companies."

Air Duct Cleaning questions, answered by experts

During your HVAC preseason maintenance call, your contractor will inspect the system for any problems and make small adjustments for better efficiency. Tasks include, though are not limited to:

  • Changing filters

  • Checking the thermostat

  • Clearing away dust and debris

  • Checking for mold

  • Inspecting electrical elements

  • Inspecting condensate lines and drain

  • Cleaning evaporator coils

  • Ensuring ignition function

While you can do some of these services yourself, hiring a professional to keep HVAC equipment running can be helpful. These experts know what to look for and may be able to spot potential issues before they become problems. Many HVAC companies offer annual maintenance plans.

Water accumulation can occur due to either leaks or condensation on or near cooling coils. It's crucial to inspect for leaks, perform necessary repairs, and ensure regular maintenance checks for your coils and drain pans. Be sure to empty the drain pans completely, as any standing water in the pan indicates that it is not functioning as intended.

Air duct cleaning involves removing dust and debris from a home’s ductwork. It can be a messy process, but a professional air duct cleaning company will work to minimize that mess by closing and covering vent registers and using a high-powered vacuum to remove debris. A pro will also use drop cloths and plastic guards to prevent dust from the vents from entering your home.

Whether an HVAC damper should be open or closed depends on the season, the zone it controls, and the temperature in that zone. In the summer, open upstairs dampers and close lower-level dampers to get the most efficient cooling possible. In the winter, do the opposite. Cool air will naturally flow down to lower levels, while warm air will rise. This keeps your system from working harder and helps prevent common AC problems.

A mild skunk smell in your house can last up to three weeks, dissipating over time with proper ventilation. However, if you leave stronger smells untreated, they can last for months or years, becoming more difficult to remove the longer they sit. This is especially true of odors that have seeped into fabrics such as clothing or furniture or those in your pets’ fur.
