"Referred by neighbor after seeing their gazebo. I wanted this done before the holidays when family was coming in town; these guys got in done sooner than expected. I had a general idea of what I wanted the fireplace to look like, but there proposed design was better than anything I could have dreamt of! I was impressed by the quality of the work, fair pricing, and attention to detail. Will be using them for our next project!"

"Everything great. System easy to install. We have had a smoke alarm go off due to something smoking in the oven and they called right away. Setup was extremely easy and system has worked flawlessly."

"The owner Jonathan from Y&Y Air Supply is a man of high integrity and he delivers what he promises and more. We had a technician from this company come clean our air ducts and dryer vent. He showed up on time and did a thorough and efficient job. They explained everything before and after. I highly recommend this company. They really know what they're doing and the technician doing the work was also very nice! My house feels so fresh and clean! I already scheduled a time to clean my chimney with them!

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Yes, if your gas fireplace has a flue, you typically need to open it when using the fireplace. Although gas fireplaces don’t produce the type of smoke and soot that wood-burning ones do, they still release combustion gasses like carbon monoxide. Opening the flue ensures these gasses safely exit your home through the chimney. Not all gas fireplaces need a chimney, however. Always check the manufacturer’s instructions for your specific gas fireplace model, as some newer models may have different ventilation requirements.

Yes, masonry fireplaces require an adequately constructed chimney to vent smoke and gases.

Most repairs take 2-6 hours, but extensive fixes or part replacements may require additional time.

There are several ways to determine if your chimney or fireplace damper is open or closed. A simple method is to check for airflow by placing your hand near the fireplace opening; if you feel a draft or hear wind whistling, the damper is open. An open damper might also make the room feel cooler, similar to the outdoor temperature, or cause your HVAC system to work harder than usual. For a more definitive test, you can try a visual inspection, although it may be difficult to see. Alternatively, you can light a small piece of paper and observe the smoke; if it is drawn up the chimney, the damper is open. Always use the damper handle to adjust its position.

Most homeowners put a layer of compact sand or gravel at the bottom of their firepit, but you can also choose more decorative options like fire-resistant paving stones, bricks, or fire pit glass. Dirt by itself can even work, but other materials do a better job of spreading the heat around.
