"I had asked for a quote for vinyl siding. This company was a new start up. Said their license was in the mail. Found out this was a lie later on. Men were very polite and respectful and offered very competitive pricing so I decided to go with them. I had maybe 30 linear feet to be installed. It took them over a week. That was my first lightbulb going off. Then their confused faces, trying to make the pieces fit was the second lightbulb. I noticed quite a few imperfections, but what could possibly go wrong with an uncomplicated vinyl fence? Everything. The slats are too short. I can see my neighbors yard through my fence because they didn't make the slats long enough for the top rail to rest on. This was on at least three panels. One panel, the slats were so short that they all popped out. With the posts? Brackets are supposed to have 4 screws, but they only managed to put two. And this was on more than one bracket. Now the post that's attached to the house, they used a hard white plastic bracket to attach the post to the house. And what does plastic do in the AZ heat? Crack! So now, the one post has become completely detached. When I tried to contact him initially for only the one panel that the slats that popped out, he responded very quickly, which used to be the norm. He asked for a picture, I sent it to him, then radio silence. So I tried 5 more times before threatening to report him to AZ atty general, BBB, report him for having no license and leaving a review everywhere I could about how he stiffed me on my one year warranty. He had the absolute nerve to insist that my fat a** dog is the one who broke it from jumping on the fence. For one, yes, my dog is so fat, but so fat and old that it can't jump. 2, there is a bush bordering the fence that my fat dog couldn't squeeze between and jump on the fence if it wanted to, and third, the planks collapsed into the yard on to the bush. When presented with this information, I got cussed out, insulted with anything you could think of. Then he said he's not my chore boy and it my job to upkeep the fence. I have pages and pages of emails from this man berating me, making excuses, accepting no responsibility, stating it's not his fault he didn't have the proper tools (w**), that it's not his fault it had a manufacturing defect (so now I know he passed off bad material) to lastly his well dried up and he moved all the way to Maine. Emails are attached so you can't say I'm lying this time."

Welding is the process of using extreme heat—and, sometimes, pressure—to attach two pieces of metal. In contrast, metal fabrication is a more involved process that can include welding, sheet metal work, bending, and other forms of metal manipulation. Metal fabrication is a large-scale project that may or may not involve welding, while welding is more often a step in larger fabrication projects.
The average cost to hire a welder is about $300, with an average rate ranging from $65 to $125 per hour, depending on their experience and the project type and size. Aside from labor costs, some other charges you’ll need to pay include the cost of the welding material and the cost of the shielding gas that makes welding possible and safe. When you’re interviewing welders for your work, you can ask for an estimate based on your project specifics. In some simple cases, like welding gas lines or common welding projects, local welders may charge a flat hourly rate with add-ons if necessary.
There are a few things you can ask welders before you hire them to get an idea of their experience and ability levels:
Are you licensed and certified?
How long have you been in the welding business?
Do you commonly do the type of welding I need?
Do you offer any kind of warranty for your work?
Do you charge by the hour or by the project?
How long do you expect my welding project to take?
What steps do you take to minimize errors in your work?
You should not do your own welding unless you have the proper training and experience. Most home electrical systems can only handle MIG welding, which creates weaker bonds than TIG welding and won’t work on certain metals or metal thicknesses. Both welding forms usually require the use of shielding gas, which can be dangerous to store at home. Additionally, welding machines create temperatures of over 3,000 degrees, and the sparks can blind you if you don’t have the proper equipment. As such, it’s usually better to hire a professional welder for your welding projects.
Some states require welders to be licensed and certified, while others don’t. However, it’s always a good idea to hire a licensed welder, regardless of requirements in your area, especially if you need welding for structural components of your home or gas lines. Licensed welders have gone through training and testing to prove their skills, so they’re less likely to make a mistake that could be detrimental to your home. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to determine whether your potential hire has a welding license.
