"They work hard to get the job done on time and 100% clean up their mess after the job is complete. Good group of workers and supervisor at job site every day. I highly recommend them."

"J.D.S. Improvements is a company that I can fully stand behind. Their employees are very responsible, respectful, and professional. We had a large TREX deck built and it turned out beautiful. I would recommend them for all your renovations."

"Ed's work on our kitchen remodel was very, very good. Cabinet/counter top install, tile work, electrical, painting, trim work - he did it all. He does high-quality work and we will be using him again for future projects. He showed up on time, did exceptional work, and was very responsive to requests for project updates, and to changes we wanted to make during the project. Highly recommend!"

"We recently moved to the Verde Valley and purchased a 2000 vintage home. The home had never been updated at all and needed a complete face lift. We were told it would take a year or more to get that done considering the pool of available contractors. We're experienced with remodels and have done several on previous homes we've owned. We were introduced to John and his sons by another contractor. We gave them a chance to perform parts of the remodel as we already had contracts with the large box stores contractors. After watching the speed and efficiency of JAU we fired the other contractors and had them do our entire remodel. We were ahead of schedule and on budget the entire remodel. Any future remodel or construction job we plan will include John and his sons!"

"Amanda was really very good!  At first I was very skeptical, thinking why did I pay money to just speak with someone on the phone about my kitchen remodel project... but after just a few minutes of her addressing some of the issues/questions I emailed to her earlier, I knew it was worth it.  It was very clear that she knew her business and she gave me several ideas that I had not even thought about.  I told her that I would definitely recommend her to friends and I will very likely use her again myself for my next home project!

Basement Remodel questions, answered by experts

If you have the woodworking experience to build a bar from scratch and you have the time, DIYing the work is a no-brainer and can save a few thousand dollars. However, if you’re looking to include a sink, additional lighting fixtures, or high-end bar tops and cabinets, it’s usually a better idea to call in a pro. It will cost more, but the finished product will likely be worth it.

You technically can paint wires in a basement ceiling, but there are several important safety and code considerations. It's safe to paint non-metallic sheathed cable as long as the labeling remains visible. You can also paint low-voltage wires and conduit and junction boxes to help them blend into your basement.

However, you should not paint damaged or deteriorated wiring is a fire hazard because it poses a fire hazard. The same goes for painting over high-heat wires that connect to heat-generating appliances or systems. Be sure to avoid painting multiple coats onto any wires, as that traps heat and poses fire risks.

A finished basement must have a heat and electrical supply with an entrance that meets building code requirements, such as a stairwell to the home's main living space. It often must include finished walls, ceilings, and floors. If the finished basement includes a bedroom, it should have a heat source, an egress window, and a closet.

Remodeling, as opposed to finishing, means altering an already finished basement by adding a bathroom, bedroom, or living area.

A walkout basement is considered to be partially below grade because at least one wall is entirely exposed. In some cases and in specific municipalities, inspectors and appraisers will still count walkout basements as below grade, which means the space can’t serve as living space or be rented out. If you intend on using the area as living space or a separate apartment, you should check with your local building department to make sure it’s legal to do so.

Adding an extension or addition to your home costs more than a loft conversion in all but the rarest cases where the home's structural integrity is lacking. Because a home addition requires a new foundation section or significant structural upgrades to handle a cantilevered portion, the cost compared to almost any loft conversion is significantly greater for the same square footage.
