We are a new business that focuses primarily on handyman type work. This includes most home repairs other than electrical and plumming. Also we offer power washing of homes, driveways, and walkways. Along with these we will wash and restore wooden decks and fences. We do some custom metal work upon request, however this is not our current speciality. What sets us apart is our pricing model. You let us know what you need and we will do the work. Once complete you decide what to pay over our costs based on your own evaluation. People come before profit at Jacks Metals and More.

Furniture Refinishing questions, answered by experts

Yes, in most cases it’s a good idea to wrap furniture in plastic to protect it from dirt, dust, and damage during storage. However, natural and porous materials such as wood or leather should have breathable fabric covers to prevent moisture damage from condensation. Either way, it’s always important to ensure proper ventilation to prevent moisture buildup, especially in humid climates.

Regularly check and tighten screws, avoid excessive weight, and clean surfaces with appropriate materials to prevent damage.

When browsing the hardware store, you may wonder about wood putty versus wood filler. Wood putty is made with plastic adhesive, whereas wood filler is made from sawdust or wood products.

The main difference is that people use wood filler to fix the interior portions of wood. Wood putty contains chemicals that could damage the inside of wood, so it's best for exterior sections. If the crack or hole goes into the middle of the lumber, it's the right product for the job.

Vinegar won’t strip the wood stain from your wood, but it can help remove a different type of stain. If you’re dealing with food stains or trying to remove water rings on your wood, you can use a little olive oil and vinegar (mixed equally) to remove those stains without stripping your actual wood stain. Just rub the solution in the direction of the wood grain, let it sit, and then wipe it away with a damp towel.

A cloudy film on top of a wooden surface usually means either the incorrect cleaner was used or there is polish buildup. You’ll need to start over again and remove the surface cleaner with a damp rag and some water and dish soap. Be careful not to leave the wood surface wet as this could cause water damage.
