In most cases, you have to sand crown molding before painting. This is due to the nature and design of molding. It’s not a flat wall, so uneven surfaces will be immediately noticeable once that paint dries. Sanding down the surface smooths everything out, leading to a satisfactory result. You can test to see if your mist coat has worked by using masking tape after the drying period. If it does have paint residue, you may need to remove the mist coat and try coating the plaster again with a different ratio of paint and water.

Laminate countertops are known for their smooth texture. While this makes cleaning them easy, it can also make it difficult for paint to adhere without a few preparation steps. To get the paint to stick to the laminate, you should thoroughly clean the surface and then lightly sand it with high-grit sandpaper. After sanding, use a tack cloth to remove any traces of dust.

Painting in ideal temperatures (between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit) with moderate humidity and ample ventilation is the best way for your paint to dry properly. You can turn on box fans and crack open windows to add circulation, but be sure no dust or debris gets on your wet walls. In the end, it’s best to be patient and ensure your paint is fully dry before applying a second coat or moving items back into a room.

Depending on factors such as weather, use, substrate condition, and type of paint used, pool deck paint should last anywhere from 1 to 5 years. Keeping the paint clean and resealing every year or two can help extend the life of the paint. Proper preparation before painting also plays a large role in how long the paint lasts on a pool deck. Paint will likely not last as long on a pool deck in poor condition before painting.
