"Super clean install. Chad and Carl left the install area spotless. They explained the operation of the generator. I will be recommending them to my family and letting Generac know how well they represent them."

"The guys came out to assess the situation to replace bathroom vent. They had to go into attic which was too hot to work. They suggested returning the next morning. They arrived early and quickly replaced the unit. I was very pleased with their work and clean up afterwards."

"Very fast, very efficient & a quality job all the way around. I told Mr. Chad my problem with my trackhoe he came right out & got it fixed up. While he was there he also looked at my generator and got it back up and running like it was new. I definitely recommend ACTR & Mr. Chad to anyone looking to get equipment/vehicles worked on."

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Carbon monoxide emissions aren’t only dangerous to human life, but they also harm our planet. While natural gas generators emit lower levels of CO than other fuel sources, there are still ways to reduce emission levels. For example, shop around for an eco-friendly generator that complies with current emission standards. Also, make sure your generator is serviced regularly to avoid CO buildup.

You may need a permit for a portable generator if you’ll be installing a transfer switch for your primary residence or similar work. Otherwise, a permit for other uses may not be necessary. Check your local building codes or ask a local generator installer for more information about your local regulations.

Yes, in most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home models. Because these installations involve significant alterations to your home's electrical system and produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require a permit or inspection for safety purposes. A generator permit typically costs between $50 and $250, depending on your location. Your electrician or certified installer can usually handle the permitting process for you, but you will be responsible for the cost. It's a good practice to confirm with your installer that they will pull all necessary permits before work begins.

While the rating will tell you how many watts the refrigerator needs at the peak of its cycle, it requires additional wattage to start. At the bare minimum, you’ll need a 1,500-watt generator to get the fridge up and running after a blackout. A 2,000-watt generator should be sufficient for most home refrigerators.

Homeowners can often access federal tax credits, such as the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), which covers a percentage of installation costs. Many states and utilities offer additional rebates, grants, or performance-based incentives. These programs can significantly lower your upfront investment. Check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables and Efficiency (DSIRE) or contact your local energy office for current offers.
