"If I could open my windows I was always afraid I wouldn't be able to close them. I really didn't want to replace them but figured that would be my only alternative. These two you men showed up and took one window apart, analyzing the problems. They knew what brand the windows were and determined what was needed to fix them. They gave ma a very fair price, ordered the parts and returned when the parts came in. They quickly replaced the broken parts and the repaired windows open and close with ease, like brand new windows. I am elated with the results and am having all the windows in my home repaired. They are all very courteous and professional and I highly recommend them to anyone that has window problems. I am still amazed at how easily my windows can be raised and lowered. Nothing short of a miracle.!!!!! They are GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!"

"The most professional crew. They put your mind at ease by giving you all of the information you need and will be there to explain the process step by step. After getting quotes from 3 other companies, they are the only one that had a solution that made sense. Best decision ever! I have total peace of mind."

Windows questions, answered by experts

The best thing to clean windows with is a mixture of white vinegar, warm water, and dish soap. This will remove dirt, pollen, and grime without destroying any tints or protective films on your glass. You can also use a commercial window cleaner, but make sure to choose one that doesn’t have ammonia in it, as this can damage window coverings and frame materials over time.

Whether you need a permit to install a bay window depends on the project's scope. Replacing an existing bay window typically does not require a permit. However, if you are adding a new bay window, requirements can vary. Adding a new bay window to the front of your house usually requires a building permit, while adding one to the side or back of your house often does not. It's always best to check with your local municipality to confirm the specific requirements in your area. Additionally, if you live in a historic district, you should consult your neighborhood association to ensure your project complies with their construction guidelines. If you're unsure about the process, a professional can provide guidance.

Window screens are available in several standard sizes. Common dimensions include 24 to 36 inches wide by 36 to 48 inches tall, as well as sizes like 18 by 14 inches and 20 by 20 inches. These often correspond to standard window sizes, such as 2 feet wide by 3 feet tall or 4 feet wide by 6 feet tall. Screens are also sold in replacement rolls to accommodate various dimensions. It is always best to measure your windows for accuracy before a repair or replacement. If your windows are a non-standard size, you will likely need to order custom screens, which can increase the cost. However, a screen does not necessarily have to fit the entire window, so you may be able to use a standard-size screen even if your window is slightly larger.

Fiberglass and wood windows last the longest, with lifespans of up to 45 years or more with proper maintenance. Wood windows are more expensive than vinyl and aluminum windows, but they’re 10% to 20% less expensive than fiberglass windows. Repairing and restoring wood windows is also easier than with fiberglass windows, so they’re considered the more durable option overall.

A good U-factor for windows is 0.30 or lower, but they can range from 0.20 to 1.20. A general rule of thumb when it comes to the U-factor is that the lower, the better.
