"I've been using Arrest-A-Pest since 2008, and have had a great experience. Locally owned and operated, Tony and his team take good care of things. They use safe sprays and if bugs are seen between sprays they are happy to come back out at no additional charge. In 8+ years, I've had them come back once. That's pretty good! Recently my small dog ingested a fair amount of the chemical immediately after application and was sick- as with all chemicals, it's best to keep pets and children from them while they are fresh; once dried there shouldn't be any danger. Not only did Tony answer my call after hours, and provide immediate information that I needed for the vet, but he also followed up and checked on us. Great service all around- couldn't recommend anyone higher.

"Terminix was quick to respond and to get out here for a termite inspection, which is what we needed. However, they signed us up for pest control and said their agent would be out to care for us right away. So far haven’t seen him yet. Will give 5 stars if that turns out well."

"I have a contract with them so I have to use them again. It pays for itself eventually if you get good repair people. You don't control who they send."

As a general rule, if you hear an animal in your attic, don’t assume it will stay there. Animals are drawn to warmth and food sources, which could lead them to other parts of your house. In particular, it’s likely that small pests such as rats and mice that only need tiny gaps to squeeze through will end up in your walls and ductwork. When it comes to keeping birds from doing their business on your porch rails, you have several DIY options and home remedies you can try: 

  • Tie a fishing line from one end of the deck post to the other. Birds won’t be able to see the line across the railing, so they can’t land on it.  

  • Hang wind chimes close by, which may scare birds away. 

  • Apply a bird gel repellent to the railings, which contains smells that birds generally don’t like. Or, similarly, you can apply citronella or lemon oil around the railings, since birds don’t like strong smells.

Some animals, such as bats or birds, will be able to get out of chimneys on their own since they can fly. Other animals, however, may have a harder time and will require the help of a professional to escape. Squirrels and raccoons in particular may become stuck inside a chimney, especially if you have a buildup of soot or creosote inside. This can prevent them from being able to climb out, in which case you’ll need to call an animal control expert to help remove them.

It’s been said that baking soda can kill fleas as it may dry out eggs and larvae. However, this method has not been proven to be effective in killing fleas or other pests. However, you can use it to absorb smells so if there is a fragrance you believe is attracting fleas or ticks, you can use baking soda to rid the smell to control it.

Wasps dislike a great many essential oils, such as clove, geranium, and lemongrass. Combine a few drops of each in a cup and place this cup outside to repel wasps from your immediate surroundings.
