River Valley Heat & Air, Inc. is a locally owned and operated business. We are fully insured with liability and workers comp insurance. We have an A+ BBB rating and have had since we have been in business. We charge $70.00 an hour for regular hours service calls while many of our competitors say they charge only $50 or $55 an hour they have a minimum of 2 hours. Most of our service calls are repaired in an hour or less and that includes cleaning condenser coils as part of our 1st hour service. This is necessary to properly diagnose refrigerant charge levels. If you want quality service done right the first time; then contact us. We take pride in saying we are NOT parts changers like many of our competitors.

Air Duct Cleaning questions, answered by experts

No, because closing air vents could damage your HVAC system. Closing a vent will only keep the air in the duct, not redirect it to a room or zone where you’d prefer it to be. That air will become trapped within your ductwork, creating a buildup of pressure that can damage the ducts and cause leaks.

If you’ve spotted a skunk or know that one of these furry creatures sprayed one of your family members, your answer is fairly obvious. However, a skunky smell in your house that isn’t coming from these critters may be a sign of a dangerous gas leak. If you suspect this, leave your home immediately and call emergency services. It could also be a build-up of dangerous gas in your home’s septic system or plumbing. Call a professional plumber near you to make an assessment.

Furnace maintenance is crucial to keeping your home warm in the colder months. In addition, it's always best to read your furnace manual for additional information on necessary maintenance to extend its lifespan. Some ways to maintain your furnace include:

  • Check and change air filters regularly

  • Inspect the exhaust pipe

  • Ensure the furnace is well-ventilated

  • Reduce your home's heating needs

  • Open all vents

  • Inspect your furnace for unusual sounds or smells

  • Clean vents and ductwork

The only immediate step you need to take after the air duct cleaning finishes is changing your furnace filter. It’s likely to accumulate some dust and debris during the cleaning process. There’s no need to replace the filter before the cleaning starts, as a dirty air filter won’t affect the cleaning process. Regularly replacing your air filter is one of the best steps you can take to keep your air ducts clean in the months after a pro cleans them. The pro should clean up any mess left behind and reattach all the grates.

Flex ducts' main problem is also their main strength: their flexibility. Because the material they are made from has little structural support, they can start to sag or compress over time. They can also be more challenging to clean than sturdier ductwork. However, it’s precisely this flexible nature that makes them a good solution for those who need a space-saving solution for their ductwork.
