"Art was punctual for the initial appointment. He was prepared to take notes, but I told him that I would send him a statement of work (SOW) as it is a large remodeling project. He seemed competent. I sent him the SOW the next day. I did not hear from him. Finally he contacted me with various reasons why he had not been in touch. I think he should have been in contact sooner, if only to say that he was delayed.
He finally got a bid to me, but it was not well organized. I had a hard time relating his bid to the SOW I sent him. I asked him to redo the bid based on the SOW. He was resistant to that idea.
I expect a contractor to make my life easier. Art was not doing that. The real deal breaker was that he expected 15% of the total materials and labor on the remodeling job as his "management" fee. I don't mind paying for value added, but I'm not going to pay someone for something that I research, purchase, have delivered, and installed with the "manager" doing nothing on that item.

"While they got the job done eventually and their customer services and techs were sweet, the company needs to be MUCH more crystal clear and upfront about a few things before they eagerly take payment. 1. This is not a company for novice clients as they only do work remotely and expect you to have all hardware properly installed before hand. So perhaps they should only sign up for software issues with clients like me who are hardware dummies. I had to struggle on my own for hours buying and trying to figure out where to plug items (again I am basically an old lady technophobe as they say). 2. They also don't make it clear that you are not scheduling an appt in the traditional sense but rather scheduling a position in a phone queue at say a time like 7 pm eastern. So you end up sitting by the phone at 7 pm for 45 minutes waiting for them to call (since apparently you are 10th in the queue). All this is fine, but it should be the first few things you bring up when someone works with you esp for 137 an hour as there are other local companies one can work with if they seek non remote service. In short, your people are great and sweet, but the upfront disclosure is lacking."

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."
