"It's a small house but they did a lot of work.  They had to take these big beams and the big long boards next to the ones that were already there that were termite infested.  My kitchen had sunk to the point that if there was any liquid on it, it would pour under the kitchen table.  It was no small job I guess.  They didn't crack the ceiling and I was so afraid that the house was so old.  I had the kitchen repainted and redone and was really afraid that I was going to see some cracked walls but all I saw was some doors.  I do have an issue that I need to call them back on because some doors are sticking now that the floors are even.  Other than that I was pretty pleased with them.  I don't know enough about what they did or how well they did but it appears that they did well.  If they respond to my problem that I'm having right now then I will use them in the future."

"The crew handled our issue with respect and helped move our belongings and saved as much of our home from the mold as possible. Our pipes burst in our home while we were on vacation and they were life savers. Absolutely would hire again."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Tuscaloosa, structural engineering work can influence your home’s HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, especially given the region’s clay soil and humidity. If you notice new wall cracks, uneven floors, unusual HVAC cycling, or doors sticking, these may signal that recent structural changes are impacting other systems. Schedule a home inspection if you see these signs to catch issues early and prevent further complications.

Helpful?

In Tuscaloosa, properties with steep slopes, mixed soil types, or proximity to creeks often require more complex structural solutions. Older homes with undocumented renovations or hidden utilities can complicate planning. If your property is in a historic district or flood zone, expect additional review steps. Limited access for equipment and previous storm damage also add layers of complexity, so early assessment is key for a smooth project.

Helpful?

In Tuscaloosa, older homes often require foundation stabilization and moisture control due to shifting clay soils. As homes age, updates may include reinforcing framing, upgrading insulation, or improving drainage systems. Homes built in different decades face unique challenges, such as settling, outdated materials, or storm-related repairs. Regular home inspections help identify evolving needs and ensure structural engineering work adapts to your property’s age and condition.

Helpful?

In AL, the durability of structural engineering work depends on proper soil management, effective moisture control, and designing for local weather extremes. Using materials suited to high humidity, like treated wood and rust-resistant fasteners, is crucial. Well-planned drainage and ventilation systems prevent future damage. Local expertise and thorough home inspections ensure your project addresses the area’s unique challenges, supporting long-term structural integrity.

Helpful?

Before seeking structural engineering services in Tuscaloosa, gather any original blueprints, past inspection reports, and records of repairs—especially after storms or flooding. Take clear photos of cracks, water stains, and foundation shifts. Note the locations of major systems like HVAC and plumbing. Document any changes made to the property over time, as this history helps engineers assess risks and recommend targeted solutions for your home.
