The servicemen arrived on time, quickly diagnosed the problem, obtained a new fixture and installed it with no problem. They were very professional, polite and helpful. I haven't had any problems with that light since their visit. I would recommend them to anyone in need of quick-turnaround electrical repairs.

"I hired Mr. Electric to connect a home theatre in my home. Allen worked on it for a couple of hours trying to get it to work. Unfortunately it was not compatiable and would not work no matter how it was connected. Allen was very friendly and professional. He also repalced a breaker that was put in incorrectly from the last person that worked on it. After spending time doing everything he could to connect, but it would not work. Allen refunded my money for the job and I am very happy with Mr. Electric and Allen. The company and Allen are very honest and that is hard to find these days. I would highly recommend Mr. Electric and allen to family, friend or anyone that wants very professional people that are honest, work hard and are very smart in their work."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Short circuits can cause fires, electrical burns, and electrocution, which can lead to serious injury or even death. That’s why it’s important to take preventative measures to prevent short circuits, like getting annual electrical maintenance and an electrical inspection every two to five years, depending on the age of your home.

An AC disconnect, also known as a switch box or fuse box, is a safety switch that allows the AC’s electrical supply to be turned off from the outside, usually done by a mechanical contractor coming to work on your unit. The box is protected from the weather by a cover or may be designed as a pull-out unit. Your local code determines where the AC disconnect must be mounted, but it's usually close to your outdoor AC unit.

240V is the standard for more demanding appliances in the United States, whereas 220V is more common elsewhere. The voltage isn’t very different in any practical sense. The United States is a newer country compared to many other regions in the world with a faster adoption of new electrical needs. Appliances in the United States are often bigger than other parts of the world.

The cost of fixing faulty wiring depends on the type of repair required. Replacing an electrical service line, for example, can cost up to $500. Rewiring an entire house will cost at least several thousand dollars. Replacing old wiring like knob and tube wiring will be even more expensive, but fortunately that kind of outdated wiring is fairly rare. Always get an estimate from a reliable electrician to learn the cost details.

Knowing if and when your circuit breaker is failing or faulty can prevent costly damage. If you notice any of the following signs, call a local electrician to help.

  • The breaker frequently trips

  • The breaker doesn't stay in the 'on' position or reset properly

  • You hear buzzing or humming noises coming from the breaker

  • There's discoloration around the breaker switch

  • There's a burning smell or visible signs of damage on the breaker
