"Paid them a few years ago to put in a main drain line and during the main line replacement did they bring up an issue with the slope and distance. Fast forward to last 90 days. They have flushed the line twice, rooted it three times and have ran a camera once. Keeping track that’s 700 plus dollars. Fast forward to 14th which was the 2nd time they flushed the lines in less than 45 days. Tech tells me because of the road construction and settling the slope is no longer there, Come out on the 21st cause it’s backed up again and they ran a camera, I’m on the porch watching the city water guy is out there with him. He does his thing talks to the City guy and leaves, doesn’t say jack to me only conversation he had with me was where was a power source, the city guy tells me it’s holding water in a section of my yard, so my main line they installed has a belly in it keeping it from draining properly. So it’s not due to settling and road construction out by the road causing the slope to be off it’s due to sucky installation and now it has a belly in a section keeping it from working properly as the slope is good before and after it. And guess what now Roto Rooter will not return calls. And at no point offering a solution either. Got a solution today and it was I could put a pump in but because I had a bad attitude because of their workmanship and throwing money at a problem they won’t even touch it. At no point in the last 12 months zero recombinations were given to fix or correct the issue."

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

No, you should not see water in a sewer cleanout. If you do, it could indicate that you have a block or leak in your main sewer line—which can cause sewage to back up inside your home and potentially flood your yard. Your best bet is to call a local sewer cleaner if you notice any water or sewage around your cleanout.

You should not attempt to snake your sewer yourself. Accessing and snaking your sewer requires heavy-duty equipment, and while renting is possible, misusing it can damage your sewer main and leave you with very expensive repair costs, not to mention potential environmental issues and severe water damage. Accessing your sewer also exposes you to hazardous sewer gasses, and failing to seal the sewer properly after work can be very dangerous. It’s always best to hire a professional sewer cleaner near you to handle this type of work.

Unlike regular cleanings, snaking your sewer line should be done as needed. There’s no reason to snake your sewer line if you don’t have any noticeable issues, like slow drainage or plugged drains. You can add it to your regular sewer cleaning checklist as a prevention method (on the same 18- to 22-month schedule), but it’s not always necessary.

In most areas, drain cleaning professionals don’t technically need a license, as they aren’t altering your plumbing system in any way. However, we recommend hiring a drain cleaning professional with a plumbing license and certification. Certified plumbers are more likely to provide professional solutions to drain clogs without damaging your system. They’ll also have the diagnostic tools and experience necessary to remove the clog entirely rather than providing a temporary solution, as a handyperson might. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to check your plumber’s professional licenses before hiring.

A clogged sewer line is not typically covered by homeowner’s insurance, though some sewer line issues are covered. For instance, damage related to a fallen tree is usually covered. Though sewer line replacement is not covered in a standard insurance policy, some companies offer add-ons for this purpose. Read the fine print before spending your own money.
