"I hired TruSouth Mobile Media Blasting, LLC through Angi to restore my 30 year old porch rocking chairs. I had previously tried to have these chairs sand blasted in another area and couldn't find anyone that would take the job. The owner, Anthony is very professional and listened to what I wanted to accomplish with the restoration project. He took an interest in the project, not just trying to complete it and move on. As a result, the chairs turned out beautifully. I even think they look better than when I purchased them. It was a pleasure working with Anthony. I would highly recommend him and have attached the before and after pictures. Enjoy!"

"Our siding had dirt and algae buildup thick enough to be visible from the street. We spent over an hour on one section trying to clean it ourselves with a pressure washer and could barely tell the difference. Submitted a quote request through Angie's list. Received a call from Hydroclean the same afternoon. Completely polite and professional during the phone call, in person estimate and visit to do the work. Nathanael explained his service, the cleaner they use, and what the cost would be, and took time to make sure we didn't have any questions. After the work was finished, he also walked with us around the house to confirm that we were satisfied with the work. All of our siding is white again thanks to Hydroclean, the price was fair compared to other companies we talked to, and dealing with them was pleasant. What more can you ask for? We will definitely call them again if we need this service, and will recommend them to anyone who asks."

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Yes, it is generally safe to have a fire pit on a deck, but you must adhere to building codes and take several safety precautions. For both built-in and freestanding models, you must use a heat-resistant barrier, such as a fire pit pad or heat shield, between the pit and the deck. Additionally, consider the weight of the fire pit and ensure your deck can structurally support it, reinforcing it if necessary. The fire pit must also be positioned a safe distance from your house, particularly from materials like vinyl siding, to prevent heat damage.

While you can use various materials like sand or even just soil, gravel is widely considered the best option to put under a deck. It provides excellent drainage and is resistant to water, fire, and pests. Gravel also helps anchor the soil to prevent erosion during heavy rain and acts as a built-in weed blocker, reducing regular upkeep. Furthermore, it is simple to spread, available in various textures and tones, and adds a polished look that complements any deck design.

Covering your deck with a breathable tarp can protect it from snow, ice, and cold winter temperatures. This is a good winterizing solution if you don’t plan to use your deck at all during the colder months. However, it might be best to skip the tarp if you’ll still be walking on your deck or using it in a limited capacity.

Choosing whether your deck should be lighter or darker than your house is a matter of personal preference, as there is no right or wrong answer. However, considering the pros and cons of each can help guide your decision. Darker colors are often chosen because they show less dirt, footprints, and marks from daily wear, making them easier to keep clean. On the other hand, lighter deck colors tend to stay cooler in the summer. From a design perspective, using a deck color that contrasts with your home's exterior can help make the deck a more defined and distinct feature. Consulting color theory can also make the process of choosing a complementary house and deck color combination easier.

Yes. Freestanding or floating decks are exactly what the name implies—structures with their own support beams. You can build a deck yourself and place it next to a house for the illusion of a connected deck without the hassle. Or you can construct it in a separate part of your yard for a dedicated outdoor entertainment space. For the purpose of removing a freestanding deck, the steps are the same as an attached deck, but you don’t have to cut the deck away from the home.
