As you can see from the above problem I had done everything imaginable to stop the humidity in the home..This crawl Space problem is everywhere.  People dont realize there is a solution to this problem.  I even placed 5 damp rid bags throughout the home and had 2 Trane A/C put in.  The A/C is only good for pulling out a certain amount of humidity and ours was doing all it could.
So in summary this is what I had done to stop the humidity.  1) placed 6 ml poly from end to end of crawl space 2) purchased dehumidifer to pull water out 3) purchased 2 new Trane A/C and 4) placed damp rid bags throughout the home.
None of this worked...I was gone for a week and the smell upon entering the home was stunning.  Metal was rusting and meldew was forming on cabnits.  Something had to be done...I called my Trane A/C manager and he told me I had to seal the home.

I called AFC and they came out within the next week.  They measured the complete crawl space and recommended placing 20 ml poly not only from end to end of the crawl space but up the walls and around any wires pipes or anything else that could bring in water or outside air.  They have run this plastic up the wall and completely sealed the entire crawl space.  They also put drainage pipes under the plastic to pull any water that might  seeping in.  There is also a large dehumidifer that runs directly to the sump pump along with the drainage pipes form directly to this sump pump...the sump pump then drains any fluid directly out of the crawl space...
What do we have now...one week later my in house dehumidifier is running at 40% humidity and I dont even empty this every day.  The damp rid bags are now empty.  This happened by the second day.  You will be shocked how well these people do their job.
$11,000 is a lot of money.  But there is no one better.  The job is done right the first time.  I didnt want to spend this amount of money and then it still not work...the crew came out completely cleaned out the crawl space and carried it off both days...this is a 2 day operation.  You never see the crew.  When you do they are polite and professional.  They are under your home sealing up the crawl space..they got here by 8:30 and didnt leave till 7p.  The salesman in the beginning will give you a catalogue that will completely show you what your crawl space looks like and what and reason you are experiencing this probem.  If nothing else get this catalogue.  Read it thourghly and you will see this is no gimmic.  These people call several times the next week to insure you are happy with the work...The saleman is not pushy...This is completely up to you..
As you can see I did evrything that is possible to stop the moisture in my home.  There is no short cut and you cant do this yourself..they have been doing this for over 20 years.
If you want the job done right.  If you want to stop the smell and humidity in your home call AFS.  You will not be disappointed.  This humidity can also cause illness, mold and meldew...STOP it today..call AFS...
I am 100% satisfied with the professional manner everyone at AFS showed...They make sure you are 100% satisfied with the job they do for you...

"Our technician, Dameyan Jackson, called the night before the day of service to let me know the time that he would be here to service our system. On Friday, he called to let me know that he was available to come earlier than scheduled, if I would like. He arrived shortly after the phone call, came in and quickly recognized that the pump had failed. He was very knowledgeable and professional. I was very pleased with his service and look forward to him returning to install a new pump."

"First, we had been pretty frustrated over the past few months trying to get this work done: people wouldn't call back or wouldn't show up or wouldn't follow through. So I finally just went on google to see what I could find in Tuscaloosa. That's how I found Halo Construction on Craig's List. I went to their website and sent an email asking if they did small jobs. Within hours I heard back from Kristy who was helpful and pleasant and gave me James' number with instructions to call him and ask for a free estimate. I did, and we set up a time for him to call to come by. I have to say this to be transparent, but this fell through. When I sent an email that evening saying I hadn't heard anything, James called the next morning, apologized profusely (it was real) and offered to come by immediately to do the estimate. He was here within 30 minutes. He not only gave me a good price but did the work the same day. He left twice: once to pick up a ladder, once to run to Lowe's for parts. Wasn't gone long either time and resumed work when he returned. Had one person with him at first; then picked more up when he was out. They weren't needed for this job, but all pitched in: efficient, professional--and I noticed how professionally they interacted with one another. Not only was the work great, but they were very considerate, moving rugs, picking up pieces of insulation, offering to take the ceiling fan boxes to the curb, offering to sweep up when they were done. This was a pretty small job for Halo; they usually do remodeling projects. James said his expertise is in flooring installations. (BTW, he also said he doesn't do electrical/wiring work but could recommend someone.) Bottom line: James and company couldn't have done more to leave a good impression. We're considering some bigger jobs for our house and won't hesitate to call on Halo again. (On another note, it's refreshing to find a Tuscaloosa business that's put itself "out here" to develop a reputation among its current and potential customers.)"

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

If your water pump fails, the first step is to turn off the power to the pump to prevent any further damage. Check for common issues such as clogs, electrical problems, or mechanical failures. If you cannot identify the problem, contact a professional who specializes in pump repairs. Prompt action can help minimize damage and repair costs.

A sump pump should be placed at least three feet deep in a pit. The rim of the sump pump basin should be level with your basement floor. If you find your pit is too deep, you can fill the bottom with gravel until the rim of the sump pump is flush with the floor.

Inspect the pump annually, test the float switch, and clean the discharge line to ensure efficient operation.

A sump pump's lifespan is typically 7 to 10 years, though the general range can be anywhere from 5 to 15 years. The specific type of pump is a major factor: pedestal sump pumps last an average of 20 to 25 years, whereas submersible sump pumps last between 5 and 15 years. While pedestal pumps are less expensive to service, they are also louder and more prone to clogging.

Several other factors influence longevity, including the pump's quality, usage frequency, and maintenance schedule. A high-quality pump that is well-maintained in a dry climate may last for two decades, while a lower-quality, poorly maintained pump in an area with a high water table or frequent flooding may fail in six years or less.

Regular maintenance, including annual inspections and tuneups from a professional, can significantly extend the pump's life. It is time to consider a replacement if your sump pump runs constantly, cycles frequently, shows visible rust or corrosion, or trips a circuit breaker. As a preventative measure, many homeowners replace their pumps every eight years. It's also worth noting that a manufacturer's warranty can indicate expected lifespan, and some home insurance policies may not cover water damage from a pump that is past its recommended replacement date.

In most cases, standard homeowners insurance policies do not cover damage from a sump pump failure or overflow. Coverage for water damage is often limited to sudden, unexpected events like a burst pipe that was not caused by negligence. To be covered for sump pump issues, you will likely need to purchase a specific rider, endorsement, or additional water backup insurance. If your insurer offers this type of coverage, they may require proof that your sump pump is regularly maintained.
