"They did quality work in minimal amount of time. The only problem I have is the quote given me was for removal and cleanup. However when I went to pay them , they said the quote was just for taking the trees down. Clean up was another $200. The owner doesnâ t speak English. His daughter gave me the quote. His son was the one who collected the payment. He said he was sorry but I had to pay the extra money. I would hire them again but I would want a written quote prior to the work being done."

"I met Gabe through a friend. I had a few trees with large dead limbs, with the potential for causing a hazardous situation. He called me from a job in Baker, said he was leaving heading my way. He was at my house in about 25 minutes. He looked the situation over, gave me a recommendation and a quote. Was also given a price for mulching a section of my property that was overgrown with yaupon and brush. He returned a few days later to trim the trees. He brought out his mulcher a few days later and cleared my property. He did a fantastic job, and I would highly recommend Gabe. He’s truly a man of his word"

"Mr. Parrish went above what the job called for and kept me updated on when he would be there. I didn’t get any other estimates so I don’t know if pricing was good, but he did more than was asked and I appreciated the communication and best of all, showing up."

Small jobs welcome

"If you are looking for a cheap job to be done by a hack, this is not The company you want. In fact Murphy Tree was the highest of the three estimates that I received. However, They were the only one that I felt was being very honest from the beginning, knew what they were talking about and for some reason made me feel not only confident that they could do the job but also, I felt like I was not being sold the bill of goods. The tree that I had removed had been dead for a few years and was rotted through and through. When it came time to bring it down, They were not comfortable doing it with the crew that they had So they simply brought in another crew with more experience. It doesn't matter how cheap someone tells you they will do something, if they can't do it. Not getting this project done was never an option with Murphy Tree. I paid a bit more than I expected to pay but when the job was completed, I could barely tell that they were ever there. Excellent job!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Yes, cutting a tree's roots can cause it to fall, particularly if major support roots are severed. In extreme cases, trimming roots can affect the tree's structure and stability. Many crucial roots are located just below the soil's surface. If you make severe cuts to roots more than 2 inches in diameter, you risk impacting the tree's water flow and its ability to withstand severe winds or storms. Even cutting roots less than half an inch in diameter under or outside the tree's canopy can cut off its water supply, causing it to decline, die, and eventually topple.

You don’t always need a permit to grind a stump, but you might need one depending on your location and the stump’s surroundings. Permits are often needed if the stump is part of a protected tree species, near public areas or utility lines, or close to environmentally sensitive zones like wetlands. Some cities also regulate noise and work hours. Always check local rules before grinding, and contact your city or county office if you're unsure.

Getting a tree pro with the right experience can be the difference between your transplanted tree surviving or not. When hiring a local tree transplanting and removal service, follow up on references, check their portfolio, ask for a breakdown of the costs, and get proof of liability and workers’ compensation insurance.

Also, look for companies certified by the International Society of Arboriculture or registered with the Tree Care Industry Association and make sure they have an appropriate state or city license.

In the case that a tree is growing directly on your property line, the cost of maintaining the tree is shared and is the property of both owners in common. In this case, all decisions regarding the maintenance of the tree must be made jointly, and both parties must agree on a course of action. You will need to agree with your neighbor about the cutting of any roots before you carry it out, and your neighbor must also consult with you before doing any trimming. Coming to an agreement with your neighbor about any shared trees ahead of necessary trimming and maintenance will make this process much simpler.

You will know that an oak tree needs to be removed when you see vertical cracks or dead branch stubs, which indicate internal decay. Other signs include trunk rot near the base of the tree and sprouts or small branches coming from the trunk.
