"They were excellent. They quickly made a draft that only needed 3 minor adjustments. The final product was exactly what I needed. They referred me to a structural engineer for review. The whole process took half of the time that they initially estimated. I would definitely use them again."

"I was upstairs and I heard a lot of noise and the house started shaking. There were cracks inside the house. I asked what happened and they said the jack slipped. After that they said everything was good, looked level. They were supposed to redo my front steps by tearing the whole thing down and reconstructing it, but they talked me into just letting them fill in the area under the stairs with concrete and they did a sloppy job as fast as he could so they could get paid and be done with the projects. Now water gets under those area he filled and goes into the foundation. The hand railing is also not secured well to the concrete and I requested the redo that. I realized after they were done that the house was not level by the garage door. They hired a person to install a new door and he had real trouble getting the old one taken down and then had trouble with the install as well. The crew did not clean up after themselves at all. My niece and I spent 5 hours cleaning up all the bricks and concrete. One day they left my front door open and my house was filled with concrete dust everywhere. I called them several times to ask them to come out and look at the spot above the garage that was still sagging. They would tell me they were going to come out once they get more work in the area, but never came. A few months ago he said I never complained or called him. He still hasn't been out here to look at the house and I don't think he's planning on it. The last time we talked he said he was going to call before he came out but I haven't heard from him. I was responsible for repairing the drywall crack on the interior, but was assured there wouldn't be many, however, there are huge cracks all over the house."

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Cullman, hot, humid summers and frequent severe storms can accelerate wood rot, foundation shifting, and steel corrosion, especially in homes built on the region’s clay-rich soils. Tornadoes and heavy rainfall often lead to storm damage and basement flooding, while winter’s freeze-thaw cycles stress concrete and masonry. Scheduling foundation repair or basement waterproofing projects in late fall or early spring helps minimize weather-related delays.

Helpful?

In Cullman, watch for stair-step cracks in brick exteriors, widening gaps after heavy rain, or sticking doors following tornado season—these often indicate foundation settlement. Efflorescence on basement walls or musty odors can signal moisture intrusion. After severe storms, even minor roof leaks or sagging floors should be addressed quickly, as local soil movement and humidity can turn small issues into major structural repairs.

Helpful?

In Cullman, promptly clear storm debris from gutters, check that downspouts direct water away from your foundation, and ventilate crawl spaces to reduce humidity. Seal minor cracks in basement walls with waterproofing products and document any changes with photos. Avoid altering load-bearing walls or beams yourself—if you notice worsening cracks or storm damage, contact a local structural engineering expert for a thorough evaluation.

Helpful?

In Cullman, schedule structural engineering work if you notice foundation cracks, uneven floors, or water pooling in crawl spaces—especially after heavy storms or tornado warnings. Spring and fall are ideal for inspections and major repairs, as humidity and rainfall are moderate. Proactive assessments before storm season or after freeze-thaw cycles help catch issues early and support insurance or renovation planning.

Helpful?

In Cullman, start each spring by checking for freeze-thaw cracks and ensuring proper drainage around your home. Monitor foundation settlement and humidity levels during humid summers, and seal new cracks before winter. Schedule a professional foundation inspection every fall and keep detailed notes on storm events, repairs, and any changes. Staying organized helps you respond quickly to storm damage or unexpected structural issues.
