The designs are different enough that a conversion would mean more or less fully replacing cabinets to switch between the two. However, if you really like the frameless look but you have face frame cabinets, you may be able to mimic the style by replacing your cabinet doors with full overlay ones.

Many cabinets use “J-pulls” or other handless designs. However, frequent use also gets these areas very dirty over time. Drawers are designed to fit with your cabinets, so a 36-inch-wide cabinet would have a 36-inch-wide drawer. The finished height of your cabinet should be 34 ½ inches to the top for a base cabinet, so if you have a 4-inch deep drawer, the cabinet below will be 30 ½ inches tall.

If your cabinet doors won’t close properly, you may have an issue with the hinges. Go through the steps above to adjust them. If that doesn’t work, you may need to replace the hinges.

It’s not usually a problem, although you may want to check the specifics of your cabinets first. A wall of kitchen cabinets can support about 600 pounds, including what’s inside and anything resting on top. Keep that limit in mind when adding DIY shelves or décor to the tops of cabinets. If you are installing a new row of full cabinets, they’ll typically have their own support mechanisms and the added weight will be minimal.
