If you need help with your holiday decorating, the first step is determining your lighting and decor needs to narrow down your pro options. For example, if you want a custom outdoor light display with all of the bells and whistles, you’ll likely need to hire a local holiday light installer who specializes in that service. But if you only need to hang some lights inside in hard-to-reach places, consider hiring a handyperson or an interior decorator instead. It’s best to contact at least three different companies for quotes and to find out what services they offer.

Decorators often prefer artificial Christmas trees. They’re easier to handle and shape, and decorators don’t have to worry about bugs or allergies. It’s also an ideal choice because artificial trees keep up appearances without owners needing to schedule watering.

However, always confirm that decorators are ready to unbox and set up the artificial tree. If they don’t include tree set-up in their services, you may need to hire a general handyperson for that task.

You should always hang the lights before the ornaments because hanging lights on top of ornaments can cause some to fall off. If a light sits directly on top of an ornament, it can cause it to heat up and possibly change its color or cause it to crack.

Some architects include interior design in their portfolio of offerings, while some architectural firms employ interior designers to handle that aspect of home building projects or refer clients to interior designers they’ve worked with in the past. Ask a local architect whether they offer interior design services as well.
