"Don't use these people! They destroyed my vintage Airstream door assembly and refused to replace it. They wanted to use some patching Bondo like material that they had never used before, and when I gave them over a year to replace it or pay me, Darla and accounting told me that they don't owe me anything because I wouldn't let them gum pucky it! If they are licensed and insured and bonded they should have just filed a claim and paid me but now I have to take them to court over an $800 hard to replace vintage door assembly. They have been rude and dismissive and I cannot recommend them at all to anyone ever especially if it's something you value, they have not proven to be trustworthy nor do they show good faith in business practices! If I were you I would hire anybody else you can but them!"

Locksmiths questions, answered by experts

Any type of dead bolt lock provides the highest level of safety for a single device. However, it’s also important to determine a lock's grade. Locks can come in either Grade 1, Grade 2, or Grade 3, which indicates how durable it is and if it’s constructed solidly. Safety experts recommend choosing locks based on Grade 1, which offers the highest level of durability.

Rekeying your own locks is a low-cost task that prevents you from having to replace the locks themselves completely. The first couple of times you rekey a lock may be challenging because this is an intermediate DIY task. You can purchase a rekey kit from most hardware stores, but make sure you’re buying the kit from the brand of lock in your home that you’re going to rekey.

Yes, as long as it’s thick enough for the deadbolt. Most interior hollow core doors are at least 1 1/2-inches thick, which is usually the minimum requirement for a deadbolt. You’ll want to find the lock block first before installing. Also, most hollow doors require additional reinforcement for locks, such as a reinforcement plate or plywood block.

Lock bumping is a technique locksmiths use to quickly and quietly open a pin tumbler lock, typically found in most types of deadbolts. It involves inserting a specially crafted key, or bump key, into the lock and tapping or "bumping" it with a mallet or similar tool. The force applied causes the lock's pins to jump momentarily, allowing the lock to be turned and opened. Unfortunately, thieves also use this technique to break into homes. Luckily, products like a deadbolt strap will fortify your lock.

First, maintain composure and avoid forcing it further. Inspect the key to see if enough material remains exposed for extraction. Use pliers or tweezers to grasp and gently pull out the broken piece if possible. Lubricate the keyhole with a graphite-based spray to aid removal. If self-removal proves challenging or risks damaging the lock, seek a professional locksmith's assistance. They possess the necessary tools and expertise to extract the key without causing damage.
