  • Canopy Tree Care
Following a bad storm in June, we had some damage to a large silver maple in our back yard. We called multiple arborist services in the area, and the only place that actually answered the phone was Canopy Tree Care. Despite how busy all tree services were at that point, Josh was out to check out our damaged tree within a day. He offered suggestions for the short term, explaining very candidly that he had other more urgent jobs, completely understandably - someone with a tree branch through their house is definitely more urgent than the minor damage on our maple! So we set a time for him to come back and give us a quote on both the storm-damaged maple and on trimming three somewhat overgrown river birches in the front yard. The birches were growing closer to an overhead electrical wire, plus they were just really shaggy and unkempt-looking. Josh was very receptive to my preference for keeping the birch branches as long as possible without actually being in the way. Josh provided the quote by email after I reminded him of it (he has been busy this summer). The first date we set was too rainy/stormy to do the work. The second date we set also had to be postponed because of a more urgent job (someone whose home was in danger due to a fallen branch). Both postponements were promptly and clearly communicated on the morning of the day when we had planned the work to be done. Third time was the charm, though, and Josh showed up with his crew and equipment promptly first thing in the morning. They did an absolutely incredible job! They didn't go tearing right into cutting stuff up; they started out by discussing together what was needed and how to trim effectively in a way that would be beneficial to the trees as well as producing the most aesthetically pleasing result. They spent several hours working on the birches first, and the difference was absolutely incredible - they're glorious and beautiful now! Josh also thoughtfully trimmed the branches over where my spouse parks his car a little higher, which my spouse appreciates very much. The silver maple went a little faster, but the same care and attention to both the tree's health and to its appearance were brought to that as well. The crew did a fantastic job of cleaning up as well, removing and grinding up all the branches they took down. They even found the little pile of branches we had waiting for the next city brush pickup and cleared that out as well! Josh's evident love and appreciation for healthy, well-maintained trees was evident throughout the process. We are very, very happy with the result, and we will definitely contact Canopy Tree Service the next time we need help with our trees

Very well. Wouldn't hire anyone else to do tree work for us. This is the 2nd time we've had him do work for us. Mike is extremely professional and his crew does a great cleanup job when they're done. We couldn't ask for anyone nicer to work with.

  • Urban Tree Management
Urban Tree Management is amazing! This is the third time I’ve hired them! Evan, the owner, responds quickly to access the job, listens carefully to your needs and then explains in detail what the options are with estimates. He gets you on his schedule as soon as possible. The team moves quickly, safely and cleans everything up nicely. I’ve had them, cut down trees, trim dead branches and cable an enormous tree and treat a tree. I feel the prices are very fair and the work is impeccable. I trust them with all trees in my yard and will definitely be hiring them back!

  • Accurate Tree Service LLC
Mike and team performed an awesome job of stump grinding for a tree in my backyard. Everything from getting an estimate till payment went smooth. Estimate was very detailed and cost was listed per task which was very helpful to pick what i needed. Very easy to get the work scheduled and they accommodated my time while rescheduling as I was not able to complete the prep work before grinding. Pam and Hope from front office were very helpful in coordination and communication. The rates from Accurate is very reasonable and i would highly recommend them to anyone who would like a tree service

  • Scientific Tree Service
James was excellent and I would hire this guy again in a heartbeat! He had great knowledge about our trees and shrubbery and gave us great recommendations. He was on time, priced well and did a great job cutting and cleaning up. What made James extra awesome, was that he was committed to not only cutting back the right branches hanging over our pool cage from our 100 year old Grand Oak, but also was committed to cutting back in a way that is best for the Oaks long term health. He even blew out built up leaves in my gutters which was not part of our contract. They don't make them like this anymore - honest, committed, fair deal. Would absolutely recommend James and his services

5/21 - An Awesome Experience!! I could not be more happy with the service we got from Maplewood Tree Care. Not only were the most reasonable estimate we received, but Jeremy, the owner, was the one who came out to do the estimate, and he gave us the best "vibe" of any of the companies we had spoken with. When the day for the work finally came, I feel like they went above and beyond. They did an absolutely excellent job on our trees and left our yard cleaner than it was when they arrived. We will definitely be contacting them for all of our future tree care needs. 8/21 - UPDATE I just wanted to report another great experience with Maplewood Treecare. We had our initial work done in May of 2021, then one day in August, when major storms rolled through Madison, we had a huge branch split down it's length. The branch was hanging over our neighbors house, and with each gust of wind, the split would grow larger. We emailed Maplewood a few pictures and called them at 10:30 AM to see what their thoughts were. They took a look at the pictures and knew the branch could come down at any moment. They had a work crew to our house by 12:30, and had the job done by 2:30! All for a reasonable price. I just can't say enough good things about their service and dedication to a job well done. I HIGHLY recommend them. Thank you for having our backs Maplewood

  • Urban Tree Management
I recently hired Urban Tree Management to do some tree health maintenance (birch borer treatment). I've used Evan's crew for years for various tree-related issues (pruning, staking, etc) and have never been disappointed. Responsive, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend.

  • Badger City Property Management
Kyle scheduled us for Tuesday, June 28. He rescheduled to the next day because he said, the previous renter hasn't returned the equipment he needs for the job. No problem I said. He sent me a text the next day around 9am saying that his crew would be arriving soon. They never showed. He text me that he was behind because it rained the previous Saturday. But, he assured us that we were a priority and we're "on his list". That was two weeks ago and he still hadn't rescheduled our job so we cancel the contract. He informed us that deposits are non-refundable. So, now we will be retaining an attorney and file a complaint in small claims court. Beware of signing his contract without stipulating a deadline to do the work or get your deposit back. Very unreliable and unproffessional contractor to work with

Tree Service FAQ

  1. How much does it cost to remove a tree?

Answer: Typically, tree removal costs between $200 and $2,000. Tree removal costs vary widely based on the number of trees being removed, the height of each tree, the diameter of each tree trunk, and accessibility to the tree. Smaller trees are usually less expensive to remove than larger ones, as are those that are more easily accessible.

  2. Do you need a permit to cut down a tree?

Answer: In many areas, you don’t need a permit to cut down a tree on your own private, residential property. But some municipalities may require tree removal permits for conservation purposes or to comply with local ordinances. When you hire a tree removal pro, they’ll be able to tell you whether you need a permit for your specific tree removal project.

  3. When is a good time to trim trees?

Answer: In most regions, the best time to trim your trees is during the winter months. During the active growing season (spring through fall), trimming your trees can leave them more vulnerable to disease and less likely to thrive. During the winter months, when trees are dormant, trimming them will cause less stress and leave them ready to grow again in the spring.

  4. What is the average cost to cut a tree down?

Answer: Tree removal costs between $200 and $2,000 per tree. Establishing an average cost can be difficult because each tree will be assessed and priced based on factors like height, trunk diameter, and accessibility. In general, smaller trees cost less to remove than larger trees, as do trees that are more accessible.

  5. How much does it cost to service a tree?

Answer: The cost to service a tree is typically between $430 and $1,320. The cost to service a tree depends on several factors, including what exactly you’d like done, the tree’s height, its health, the location of the tree, and local labor costs. The national average cost for tree services is $865. Tree trimming isn’t necessary for all trees but can improve their health and longevity by encouraging new growth.

  6. What is the difference between tree trimming and pruning?

Answer: While tree trimming and tree pruning might appear similar to the untrained eye, they serve different purposes. Tree pruning is used to thin a tree by removing unnecessary or burdensome branches. Tree trimming promotes healthy growth by trimming but not removing branches.
