"We contracted with Greene Solutions a couple of years ago to complete an energy audit and to map out a series energy saving projects to achieve desired energy efficiency and comfort goals for our 30 year old home. The last two projects were completed in September 2019. First vapor seal our partial basementâ s crawl space floor and walls and second to use the unique Aerosealï Technology to internally seal our gas furnace/air conditionâ s ductwork. Greene Solutionâ s four man team (Jason, Owen, Pearse and Harvey) arrived promptly at 8:30 am and began both projects. They worked very effectively and efficiently as a team to accomplish each project in a professional way always respecting our homeâ s interior and keeping us abreast of their progress. We are especially excited to have the Aerosealï Technology applied to our â leakyâ duct system as it has vastly improved the performance and efficiency of our Lennox furnace and air conditioning systems. Thank you Thomas and the Greene Solutions team for your excellence in developing our plan and in the completion of our latest projects. Well DONE !! Bob & Barbara Hammond Dublin, Ohio"

"Everything was really good including scheduling except for one of the breaker handles got broken while testing and they didn’t replace it.  This made the new electrical panel look used.  I would be worried about touching this part of it if there was water in the basement. He made it easy for me to understand what they were going to do and communication was good with them."

"Could not be more happy. Everything just went as well as it could have during this crazy COVID stuff. Windows went smooth, roof in a day and siding was a few days. Entire project start to finish was 8 days and the clean up was exceptionally well done. Did not even know they were here. Definitely recommend Bradford Xteriors to anyone needing things done. Jason, the owner is very wired at all time but none the less a great guy and now friend."

"My furnace needed to be cleaned and to have a maintenance check as it turns out my flame sensor was very dirty and after about 30 min my furnace was tip top. Would definitely do buisness again!"

"The house was a lot warmer now and he did an excellent job. He guarantees his job. It was a reasonable price. He walks me through the process. He's a good guy. He called a week later and check if I was satisfied with the service. He came all the way from Columbus. It was an hour away from here and he came early. He did extra work for free. I would recommend him. He takes pride in his work and didn't take advantage of me."

"Our new furnace replacement was a challenge that did not fit well with prominent local HVAC companies. We were changing from oil heat to a gas furnace. Local companies declined to remove the old oil tank from our basement but they still wanted the furnace & ac replacement work. This was unacceptable. Air Comfort Systems said “no problem” to the whole job. The service took a little longer than planned due to a narrow staircase and a bulky oil tank. Once completed the new furnace installation was exceptionally satisfactory. The city inspector was even complimentary of the workmanship. The workers were all very polite and appreciative of our home. Care was taken to remove all old components and the debris generated in the changeover. They are a company that appreciates the opportunity to serve your needs."

Energy Efficiency Auditing FAQs

An energy audit costs about $420 on average, ranging from $100 to $2,250, depending on the size of your home, property, location, and the tests the auditor needs to perform. Keep in mind that the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act’s Energy Efficient Home Improvement credit covers up to $150 of home energy audit costs. Common energy audit tests include:

  • Blower door test: $350

  • Duct testing: $100

  • HERS test: $375

  • HERS certification: $200

  • Infrared imaging: $200

The difference between an energy auditor and a home inspector is primarily in the purpose of the inspection. The energy auditor conducts tests in your home to determine the energy efficiency levels in areas like windows, insulation, and doorways. The auditor then makes recommendations for ways to improve a home’s energy efficiency

A home inspector examines various structures of your home to determine that everything is up to code and gauge the condition of features like the roof, foundation, HVAC, and electrical. The home inspector reports on the overall home and makes repair recommendations.

Typically, a local home energy auditor is responsible for performing energy audits. A home energy auditor will conduct one of three energy audits designed by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) to determine the energy efficiency of your home. The auditor often provides analysis that can help guide changes and improvements to your home for better energy efficiency, giving recommendations as necessary.

The three levels of home energy audits include:

  • Level 1: Review of your energy bills and home for signs of energy inefficiency and areas for improvement. The average cost range is $0.08 to $0.12 per square foot.

  • Level 2: A level 2 ASHRAE energy audit costs $0.12 and $0.35 per square foot. In-depth analysis of your energy usage and provides a report of cost-saving changes.

  • Level 3: Comprehensive analysis and detailed recommendations for ways to improve your home’s energy efficiency. A level 3 audit costs about $0.36 to $0.50 per square foot.

To find a reputable energy auditor, find a local company that offers energy audit services. Research the company’s reviews, methods, and certifications to find a reliable professional in your area. The most reputable energy audit companies are HEP-certified by the Building Performance Institute (BPI). Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local energy auditor guidelines to ensure you’re hiring a certified professional.
