As cold air returns to Chicago for its long winter’s nap, homeowners turn their attention to starting up that first fire of the season.

Regular use of a home’s fireplace during the winter can help trim utility costs. But most fireplace aficionados know they can’t light up that first blast of coziness each year without an annual cleaning and inspection.

In Chicago, that means calling in a highly rated chimney sweep to take care of the job, unless you have the proper tools for a do-it-yourself option. Cleaning and inspecting your own chimney could be risky business, and mistakes can be catastrophic and more expensive in the long run.
