Project: Transform unfinished basement into a bar/entertainment space

Who: Green Basements & Remodeling

Where: Duluth, Georgia

Approximate cost: $37,000

Timeframe: Four weeks

All remodel projects come with timelines, but not usually as strict as highly rated Green Basements & Remodeling’s four-week deadline on this basement remodel. The Duluth homeowners planned to have their wedding reception in the new basement space.

Sales manager Jim Markovic says the homeowners wanted a bar area that would be good for both entertaining and relaxing. “We took three walls and transformed them into three focal points,” Markovic says.

The former bookcase in the wall became a wine cellar that holds 700 bottles of wine. “[The homeowners] came from San Diego, so they’re big wine people,” Markovic says.

Green Basements & Remodeling also created a lounging area with unique wall artwork, which turned out to be Markovic’s favorite part of the job. “They wanted something that acted as a focal point, that you wouldn’t see anywhere else,” Markovic says. The company drilled holes into the decorative piece and backlit it with LED lighting that can switch between clear, red, yellow, green and blue.

The third focal point is the bar, which includes delicatus granite.

Markovic says the homeowners were overjoyed when they saw the finished project. “I am the estimator, so I walked in at the end to pick up the final payment,” he says. “When I opened the door, the lady hugged me.”
