Big Steve's Tree Care

The company we previously used now has a contract with the state and we had to find someone on short notice. When the companies we called were unavailable, we checked Angie's List. This team cleared the entrance to the property which had been completely blocked by county snow plows and proceeded to clear the entire parking lot. They arrived when they said they would and did a great job at a fair price. If you need snow removal for a commercial property, definitely contact Steve.

SNOW ESCAPE
5.0
We were surprised when we woke up and saw almost 6" of snow on the ground. We didn't have the ability to get out of our long driveway on our own. We contacted Jim at Snow Escape and asked if we could get someone out fast. He told us that his trucks were very busy doing commercial parking lots, but he could come out personally within the hour. He showed up with a helper about a half hour later and gave us an upfront price that we agreed on for emergency service. He took care not to damage the lawn with his plow, and we were even surprised to see them shoveling the sidewalks at no extra charge. After he was done he asked if we would like the driveway treated with salt to prevent re-freezing for an extra $15. We thought it was a good idea and got it done. He asked if we would like to be invoiced through the mail, but we just wrote him a check when he was finished. We are signing a seasonal contract with them for the upcomming winter, and it seems like it's well worth it to have someone available for every snow storm guaranteed.

Initial quote was quite a bit under what it ended up costing, but the work was done well. I especially appreciated their consistent and effective contact with me during a trying time for me and busy time for them.

Honey Cove Landscaping & Tree Services

The owner is Brandon Turner. He did a very good job. It is not a big business. It is a small business, but he did a very good job. He has an assistant with him. He charges $50 to cut the grass. He is prompt. He does a good job. He is always on time. He will come in and do it even if we are not here. He will collect the money later. He is an honest guy. He is a really nice young guy. He is very reliable. He is a hard worker. He does snow removal, landscaping, lawn and yard work, and mulch and top soil.

I have attempted to call them on multiple occasions and there is no answer or even a recording on their phone line. I don't know if they're even in business.

Got Electric LLC

Got Electric were professional, pleasant, and reasonably priced when we installed a generator. Grant helped us diagnose a smoking light fixture over the phone after hours, and was patient and honest to a fault regarding our late snow removal bill. They are one of the very best home service providers that I have ever used. I don't just want to recommend these guys, I would want to be these guys if I were in business.

I sent them an email yesterday, and they came out and found my problem before noon today. Now they need to get the skylight ordered to get it installed. I am waiting to hear from them. They are very busy, but their turn around time has been really good so far.

From the courtesy of Tina in the office, efficiency of bill pay method, the quality of workers who are at our house every week, I cannot say enough good things. They will stop and grant requests when they are here. They call us every snowstorm to see if we need them to shovel. Their prices are very reasonable. My husband will ask them to skip a mowing here and there during dry spells. The owner Anthony is so nice and helpful. We are planning to use them for weed control and fertilizing this year. They are a pleasure to do business with.

Ana's Country Landscaping & Alfred's Carpentry

She is pretty much the owner but she works like a worker as well. It is a small own business, but they do a very good job and their pricing is reasonable as well. They are very efficient in getting things done in a timely manner. They are easy to negotiate with and try to work with me. Sometimes it takes maybe a day or two for them to get back to me depending on their schedule but they are very responsive. They tend to get busier during summer than winter because nobody wants to do anything with all the snow on the ground and that?s when they do snow removal.

Ryan's Landscaping Inc
5.0
I have known Ryan for years and have watched his business grow. I have been a very avid gardener in my more physically able days but as I had to let go of more and more of the hobby I love , Ryan has filled in with his expertise. I do believe his service has improved over the years, and his men have been with him a good long while to improve with him. I have had tree work, drainage, seeding, planting or removal of various shrubs , weeding, landscaping for drainage purposes and blowing autumn leaves behind the fence into the woods, etc done by this crew. I speak a little Spanish so we get along well. I always walk around with them when they first come so they will know exactly what to do and before they leave I walk around again to make sure nothing has been missed. If there is a need to go back and get something else done, they do it, or Ryan will send someone else out to finish at the end of the day. They also do snow removal in winter, which is a wonderful thing because I can no longer shovel either. The key to satisfaction with the work is to make the rounds at the beginning with the men , and go out and take a look every now and then, and when it's done to make sure you are satisfied. I do that with anyone who comes to my home to do work. People are not perfect, they are not mind readers and they do not mind a word of help here and there if they have missed something. I am very polite with the men as they are with me. We have a great relationship and I will continue to have Ryan and his crew work for me . Many of my neighbors call on him as well. I give him an A.

Veterans on Duty home improvement services
5.0
We could not have been more pleased with the fine service and excellent results we received today from Veterans On Duty. Our driveway is very long, around 200 feet. We had a foot or more of snow overnight that was very wet and extremely heavy. Our snow blower had died unexpectedly. What to do? I turned to Angie's List, searched for and quot;Snow Removaland quot; and I found Veterans On Duty and gave them a call. I was immediately connected to Steve. I explained our predicament and he said and quot;Don't worry, I know your area and we'll be back there in an hour or so and stop by.and quot; As promised, Steve and Travis came by with their truck and sturdy plow, and they took care of our big snow removal job in no time flat. They did a great job of snow removal and were very courteous and friendly. I really was impressed by their speed in arriving and sense of urgency to get here and attack the snow. The price was very fair for the work they did. As they left they even stopped to free up our trash and recycling cans awaiting pickup that had been and quot;plowed inand quot; by the roads department, a kind and helpful extra service. We learned that Veterans On Duty is also a full-service home improvement and repair business, and we will definitely consider them for electrical and other work as the need arises. I recommend Veterans On Duty highly and salute them for their great work today. Nice job! .

J Reynolds Landscaping
5.0
Bottom line: J Reynolds Landscaping did a superior job of resolving a major drainage problem in my front and side yards, and additionally created an outstanding appearance to the front of our house! Let me start out with my overall impression ? extremely positive, a great company to deal with, outstanding quality of work, and yes, I would DEFINITELY recommend them and would definitely use them again. Not only did they do a great and very professional job, but they also dealt with a change in the conditions of the drainage from the neighbor?s property which took place after their initial proposal was written and approved, and they dealt with this change without any increase in cost. But most importantly, they know their business and do it well ? they took our front yard from a veritable swamp following even moderate rains to a very good looking area which drains well. They get a vote of outstanding from us. Working with their designer Matt was easy as he understood our requirements and our desires, and came up with a great design. Further, when it came time for the installation, Matt was there leading the team, so there were not issues associated with the team not understanding the design - we could not have asked for a better job! In terms of cost, they were not the cheapest, and were not the most expensive. They provided a very reasonable set of recommendations, at a good cost. We added some new requirements (actually suggestions from other proposals), and they added these at very reasonable costs. There were lower costs, but the proposals were not nearly as complete and it was not clear that these others would have actually met our requirements. Overall, they were well worth the cost we paid for the work! For that reason I gave them an A for cost even though they were not the cheapest bidder. Were there any issues? Virtually none. One VERY minor issue was the fact that their attempt to re-use some existing bedding plants was not successful and did not look good. However, they quickly recognized the issue themselves and returned the next day with new flats of bedding plants, which are thriving and look great. It is this type of responsiveness to even minor issues which demonstrates their professionalism and would lead me to have them do similar work in the future! How does the whole job look? Outstanding! We?ve received a number of complements, including even from realtors, regarding how good the sidewalk, French drain, and raised flower bed look. And while that is great, the really outstanding fact is how well it works. As indicated above, our front and side yards were swamps following even moderate rains, and stayed that way sometimes for days. Look at some of the photos of flooded sidewalk and front yard. Then look at some photos of the new walkway even after a storm. After a very heavy rain, there will be water on the sidewalk for a very few (as is less than 5) minutes, and it rapidly drains down to the drainage system and off to the back of the property. Then, rather than the whole yard remaining a swamp for days, it dries up in a very reasonable period. Even after our 29 inches of snow this winter, as the snow melted the water drained off as it melted, rather than creating a swamp in our front yard and on our walkway which then refroze at night creating a mess and a real hazard for walking! Look at the Old Walkway Snowmelt photo which shows the real problems we had ? a photo of the new walkway during the period of snowmelt would show just the snow with no standing water. This is exactly what we needed, and exactly what J Reynolds Landscaping?s outstanding design and installation achieved. I have other similar work I may have performed in other parts of my property, and if I do I will almost certainly use J. Reynolds Landscaping. Whether I ask for multiple bids would remain to be seen, but given their cost, and their performance, on this effort, I might go right to them for my first and possibly only bid. No matter what I would definitely include them on my very shortest list of landscapers to work with and without hesitation I would recommend them to friends, family, and Angie?s List members!

VIRGINIA GARDENS & HARDSCAPES LLC
1.0
This father & son (Charles Black Sr. & Charles ?Chad? Jr.) company, Virginia Gardens & Hardscapes (VGH) (now renamed Schwartz Industries) won our business with a low quote, professional act, & pictures (their website & binder) of magnificent work (not likely theirs) completed on grand estates. The son (front man) played nice/professional until I signed the contract & paid half up front. After that, it was a nightmare. They claimed the project would be done in abt. 1 month but 5 months later, it wasn?t (never was). Random workers haphazardly appeared on site with little/no supervision & no necessary permits were acquired. All work needs to be torn out & redone. Independent engineers/county inspectors agree it?s the worst they?ve seen. The 1st month ended with little progress & then VGH announced a name change to Schwartz Industries. Concerning b/c: a) our contract & supposed lifetime warranty on the work was with VGH, b) why use Schwartz if real name is Black? Likely attempt to ?launder? the old name due to # of prior upset clients/poor work. We had to chase after them for months for legal docs to prove our contract & warranty would stay valid. Polite inquires about project details, time lines, etc were met with hostile, un-businesslike response (bullying tantrum) from the son stating that we did not have the right to ask questions. This treatment evolved into a hot-cold-hot-cold, game playing. The father took over as POC to attempt damage control but things did not improve. Son contacted us to admit he had forgotten a small retaining wall in his design but demanded $1,200+ to correct it or else he would remove all workers/equipment & leave the mess until he felt like returning & at an even steeper $ penalty. We threw them half the money to get work moving again but this just encouraged them to keep messing with us. Instead of proper patio top flagstone, cheap/thin veneer stone (normally used for walls/indoor applications) was very sloppily laid (with huge, inconsistent spacing) further ignoring our requests & pictures we provided early on. After repeated pleas for the spacing to at least be corrected they hit us with the 2nd shakedown ? tried to charge us a huge amt. to pull up & correct. We protested so they just set them in concrete as they were (not even done right-all loose) Finally, wood steps (not to code) made of cheap, warped, knotty wood were slapped onto the deck. And refusing to meet for a final walkthrough, the father just showed up very early one morning, demanded final payment while standing on the still unfinished front steps. I politely refused to pay until an engineer evaluated the work. We had to contact the police a couple weeks later when the father and a crew were found trespassing. At first, they pretended to leave when asked to but I found the father's truck backed in the driveway while he and crew headed into the back yard when I went back to check. As the police car pulled up they got in the truck & fled. BEWARE! Chad is operating under the new company: element or 1 element - www.my1element.com.
