"Dan spent over 2 hours working on a stubborn clog in my kitchen sink drain. In 25 years, it has never drained so well. Then he tackled the drain for the washing machine. And finally the laundry room floor drain including it's P-trap that was plugged. He was very professional and answered any questions I had. At the end everything was draining smoothly and the bill was less than I expected. I didn't know what he charged or how, but it was worth every penny. He worked very hard for the amount he was paid."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Sealant doesn’t need to be applied to the bolts, but it can be a good way to stop an active leak in the moment. However, don’t rely on it as a cure-all; instead, make sure to fix the problem at the source by changing or tightening the bolts.

If you do use sealant, make sure to spread it thickly and evenly across the bolts and the tank's porcelain.

Yes, you can pour water down the toilet to help it flush. For each flush, you’ll need 1 to 2 gallons of water for newer toilets or 3 to 5 gallons of water for older toilets. Rather than dumping the entire bucket in all at once, pour the water in slowly for the best results. If you’re pouring water down the toilet to help it flush after a clog, only use 1 gallon of hot water.

The order of your bathroom renovation should prevent damage to the completed work. Start with demolition and removing the old fixtures. Then, address structural repairs or water damage, if needed. Next, tackle the rough-in phase for plumbing and electrical work, install waterproofing, and work on wall treatments like tile or paint. Install your shower or bathtub, toilet, vanity, and sink. Flooring goes in after major fixtures but before the toilet. Lastly, install new lighting fixtures, mirrors, and other finishing touches as desired.

Generally, toilet leaking is not an emergency unless the leakage is severe. However, any leakage at the bottom should be addressed as soon as possible because it could lead to water damage to the floors, under the tiles, or into the walls. Leaks at the bottom can also lead to mold growth if unaddressed.

Tools include a wrench, plunger, and wax ring. Professionals use specialized tools for complex installations.
