Our point of contact was Gary Courtright who did an excellent job in communicating, estimating, and coordinating the repairs and roofing shingle replacement for our rather large and expansive home in Fruit Heights, Utah, where in some years, the canyon winds through our town can exceed 100 MPH. After 25 satisfactory years on our old roof, we contracted Kimball to complete some extensive roofing plywood repairs, re-flashing, re-membraning, and re-edging of the entire 6,000 SF roof. Per Gary's expert advice, plus Louie and Rohojolo outstanding installation, we ended up with a very attractive and fully sealed roof that will probably last twice as long as our previous roof. We now have a Tamko 50 year architectural shingled and ridged roof that can now withstand winds up to 150 MPH. SUPER. JOB WELL DONE !
Once I sent in my initial downpayment of half, I received a call asking if it would be ok if they started a day late. He reassured me they would still be able to finish on time. I agreed.
I don't live at the cabin, but I do have security cameras which allow me to see when they arrived and how long they stayed. I waited the following day and observed they came mid-morning, stayed for less than two hours, then left. I emailed and asked what they had found and for a progress report and got this answer:
>>We got rained out,we are back today and will finish today. Thanks Kimball.
They next day they didn't show up until past 11am, they stayed less than four hours total and then said they were 'finished'. The bigger surprise came when I received the following email:
>>HERE IS THE INVOICE FOR WORK DONE ON YOUR HOME.
PLEASE GIVE OUR OFFICE A CALL SO WE CAN TAKE CARE OF THIS. ALL THE WORK
IS FINISHED.
I looked at the invoice and found an extra $500 charge, on top of the already thousands of dollars I had paid them for only a few hours work! I called their office and they referred me to look at the contract I had signed, which allows them to - without notifying the customer - use additional materials up to $500 on site and bill afterwards. I was upset, but blamed myself for not reading the fine print. I inspected the roof during the summer to find very poor quality workmanship. They had removed the ridge cap from my roof, cut a hole across the ridge of the roof, then re-screwed the old ridge cap back down, leaving the old empty screw holes, instead drilling new screws into the cap and several sections were bent where they didn't lay it down evenly. I inspected the 'areas' they said they had re-flashed and couldn't see any appreciable work done, as far as I could tell they didn't even pull back the metal roofing .
Perhaps it shouldn't have been a surprise then when we arrived at the cabin for Christmas this year to find the very same leak! I immediately called Kimball and reminded him of the work he performed and his guarantee to fix any leaks this season. He said given it was Saturday and his crew was off for the weekend it would have to wait until Monday. We had many plans before the holiday so I asked for a time span and he refused to provide a specific time, said "sometime Monday morning". I agreed and spent the weekend emptying buckets every three hours, all through the night. :( Monday came and no one showed up, and even worse, Kimball never called back.
I have since looked up more information on Kimball roofing and found that they have faced many complaints, and lawsuits, for their work. I won't repeat it here, but encourage you to do your homework before hiring them.
"This is the first time Kimball Roofing or Myself has heard about a problem with are work or contract with this customer. This is a prime example of a person that is out to damage are reputation and not to resolve a roofing problem if any.Kimball roofing has a contact that states the steps to file any concerns, this has not been taken to the of my knowledge.I would suggest this customer take them steps or correct or remove this review.Legal actions will be taken. Please contact Kimball personally with any questions or concerns about this review at 435-657 9991. Thank You, Kimball"
"Customer roof is in extremely bad condition and our contract was for a temporary repair for $2843.00. We do not guarantee Roof Repairs because, despite repairing there could be structural or integral damage that warrants a re-roof but the customer chooses to not complete the re-roof at that time. We did offer to pay for the carpet cleaning and we went back and repaired the dent and repainted."
