"TCB applied asphalt over existing driveway to level dips and irregularities. Richard was prompt in his initial reply, quoted over the phone, and started the job the next day. Crew was personable, efficient, and tidy. Driveway looks nice.."

"Excellent Service. Mr. Knox communicated everything up front and was very knowledgeable. He went above and beyond to make sure that my elderly mother's roof was repaired properly. From start to finish I would give him an A+ on all facets of his communication and the company's workmanship. Go with them, you won't be disappointed."

"Great the crew came out and made my yard nice and dry even after a huge storm. They also used asphalt millings to repair my driveway and it packed down nice and hard as if it were paved."

"I'm very pleased how the new patio Tony installed turned out. There were delays and it took longer than expected, but as I found out there were things out of his control. We are currently living in different times. There were delays because materials were not shipped, but it was because of the limited number of drivers that were available. I did my homework, and it was a factor. Dealing with help being available was another factor. Tony did his best and performed most of the work himself. He was dealing with a lot, but pushed through it all. So I was unhappy because I felt the affects of what he was dealing with, but Tony was professional and easy to work with on whatever we wanted to design. Other companies that we met with wanted to force their design which frustrated us because they didn't want to hear or work with the design we provided. Tony offered suggestions when asked but drove the design we provided him. Tony did great work and very fair pricing. We also found other companies were price-gouging and wanted to charge a lot more for providing a lot less. Not only did Tony do a wonderful job on the patio installation, but he made sure the rest of the yard was fixed (better than when he started) and meshed with the new patio like it was there for years. I'm very please with the work he did and I'm already thinking of another project where I could use his services. Check out the photos that were uploaded and you'll see why he gets a high rating from me."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Wet cutting is usually the preferred method. It controls dust, which helps protect your lungs and makes for a cleaner working environment. Plus, the water cools the blade, preventing overheating and prolonging its life while providing smoother, more precise cuts. The downside is the mess—water and asphalt sludge can be messy to clean. Dry cutting, though convenient if water isn’t available, creates a lot of dust, which can be harmful. This also increases the risk of blade damage due to overheating. So, if you have the option, wet cutting is the better method for most asphalt jobs.

Recycled asphalt is not better than gravel, but can be a good alternative. It is inexpensive, but not as low-cost as gravel, and doesn’t tend to last as long. Recycled asphalt isn’t as dusty as gravel and is more environmentally friendly. The black look can be something that homeowners prefer. No matter what, ensure you choose an experienced recycled asphalt contractor.

You should contact your driveway installer before winterizing a newly installed driveway. Winterizing it before the asphalt or concrete has fully cured can damage the driveway. But in many cases, you don't need to winterize a newly installed driveway anyway since it's likely freshly sealed and won't have much damage yet.

Driveway paving costs around $4,500 on average, but depending on many factors, you could pay anywhere from $2,500 to $6,600 or more. The size of your driveway will usually be the most significant factor, with more square footage increasing your costs. You can expect to pay between $2 and $15 per square foot for paving services. Some other factors that play a role include the following:

  • Quality of the materials

  • Contractor’s experience and expertise

  • Site preparation and grading, if necessary

  • Layout of your driveway

Recycled asphalt is a durable choice for a driveway, but doesn’t have the same appearance and low maintenance as standard asphalt. For long driveways in rural communities, recycled asphalt can make a great choice. Recycled asphalt is 20% to 30% percent less expensive than standard asphalt and is better for the environment.
